School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-3-- In the eighth mystery in this easy chapter-book series, Ernestine Jones invites her friends to her first sleepover. It is a dark and stormy night just before Halloween, and the four children experience potentially scary happenings that turn out to be familiar. The book drags. Readers are taken through what seems like every minute of the night, every move in a board game, every morsel consumed. Even the alleged ``ghost-witch'' is described in a fragmented, drawn-out manner, as are the interchangeable characters. This sleepover is neither spooky nor fun. --Carolyn Jenks, formerly at Oyster River Elem . School, Durham, NH
