Overview

To keep her safe, he will not only have to risk his life, but also his heart.

Once Upon an Accident, Book 3

Lady Anna was once considered the catch of the season. Now, three years after she fell for a man who tried to murder her cousin, she eases her guilt with charity work at an orphanage. Until her mother insists she do her duty.

Attending her cousin’s ball is irritating enough. It’s her one dance with Daniel, the unscrupulous Earl of Bridgerton, that rubs her nerves raw. And oddly leaves her senses on the edge of arousal.

The ton sees Daniel as a scoundrel. In truth, like centuries of Bridgertons before him, he leads a vast network of spies, protecting England from her worst enemies. His resolve never to marry means the one woman he’s always wanted—Lady Anna—is off limits. Especially now that his father’s murderer is coming after him as well.

At first, Anna wonders if Daniel was put on this earth just to annoy her. It’s only when she finds him injured that his mask begins to fall away—and so do the barriers between them. But their flaring passion puts her right where Daniel didn’t want her. Next on a killer’s list.

Warning: This book contains spies, musicales, men who think they know everything, women who know they do not, naughty liaisons, matchmaking mamas, and a seduction that will curl your toes.

Meet the Author

Born to an Air Force family in an Army hospital, Melissa Schroeder has always been a little screwy. Years of Monty Python and her crazy family further warped her. Her husband is an Air Force major, and together they have their own military brats. In her spare time, she reads, complains about bugs, travels, cooks, reads some more, and tries to convince her family that she truly is a delicate genius. She has yet to achieve her last goal. The Spy Who Loved Her is Ms. Schroeder’s thirty-second published book.

Highly Anticipated and Highly Reccomended, Don't Miss this One

Many years ago I read the the 2nd book (Lessons in Seduction) in this series, I fell in love with all the characters. I then went on to read the 1st book (The Accidental Countess) in the series, I loved it too maybe even more than book number 1. I was then ready for book #3 and it was not out yet. So I have been highly anticipating this book.
Melissa Schroeders writes the most amazing love scenes, romance and adventures and mysteries and she always throws in a lot of humor. She is an amazing writer and my favorite of all her books is this series.
This book is about Anna and Daniel, who you can tell really care about each other even in book #1.In book #2 the author gives Anna some major issues and in book #3 we can really see how those issues have changed her for the better and given her a depth that even Daniel doesn't see at first.
Of all three books this is my favorite. The author definitely saved the best for last. I didn't find it as sexual as the others, mostly because of the relationships the characters have with the other characters, who are featured in this story and are part of the fun.
Daniel is the best friend of Anna's brother Sebastian and so there is alot of guilt there, in addition Daniel is a spy. So for most of the book he wants to protect Anna from living with a spy. So he has alot of motivation to fight his love and lust for Anna.
Anna on the other hand has no idea he really feels that way until the very end. Anna is a strong, independant woman which is unheard of in this time period and I really admired her.
You do not have to read all three books, in fact the author really gives you a summary of what you need to know in the book about what happened before hand. You will want to read the other books in the series but you will not feel lost when reading this book.
I LOVED this book and found it one of the most romantic stories of love I have read in awhile.

You'll Love Her and The Spy!

The Spy Who Loved Her, Once Upon an Accident was a embraceable, impassioned story of filled with sensual romance, and untold love, topped with bits of suspense . I promise, you will fall completely head over heels for Lady Anna, and even more so for "her" Daniel, The Earl of Bridgerton.

Lady Anna, once the rogue turned humanist after her cousin was almost murdered, has always loved Daniel, but knowing his bachelorly lifestyle Anna knows her feelings cannot be mutual. How could her brothers best friend desire her like she has always desired him? But Anna has changed immensely since the near murder of her cousin and is not the young girl Daniel once knew, just as Daniel is not the bachelor he once was. Melissa's brilliant writing intertwines these two characters in a way that will draw you in, not let go, and leave you wishing for more.

Unfortunately, I have not yet read the Melissa's first two books, The Accidental Countess and Lessons in Seduction, but after finishing The Spy Who Loved Her they are now on my "to read" list.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

Loved it! Really, really loved it.

THE SPY WHO LOVED HER is.... FANTASTIC!!! WONDERFUL!!! PERFECT!!! EVERYTHING I HOPED IT WOULD BE!!! ... and I definitely want more. I loved SPY. It was great to get back into the Once Upon an Accident series. Things have changed since we last saw Anna and Daniel. Anna wasn't left unscathed by the events in LESSONS IN SEDUCTION. She's grown up and become a woman. She's still the independent woman we once knew. Just more grown up. Daniel is still as hot and secretive as before. He's got a lot on his plate and thinks he can't have the woman he desires. And we all know how that will end. Men and their faulty thinking. I really enjoyed the way Anna and Daniel's story was told. The romance was spot on. The suspense was good. The clues spread out and back story filled in. I love the way Ms. Schroeder mixes her romance and suspense. Its a wonderful balance that pulls me in each time. Enough info is given so you can read SPY on its own but I recommend you read the first 2 in the series for better enjoyment.

My First Book by this Author ~ FANTASTIC!!!

"The Spy Who Loved Her" is a wonderful read!! Let me just say that this is the first and only book of Ms. Schroeder's I have had an opportunity to read and I LOVED it!! The author fully developed the characters of Lady Anna and Daniel and I know if I go back and read the two preceding books in this series I will have a full and complete background on them. Not that I needed to have read the previous two books to read this installment as Ms. Schroeder wrote this book in such a manner that you could read it as a stand alone book and not feel as though you had missed something vitally important by not having read the first two books.

I saw Daniel, leading man, as the strong, intelligent, silent type and could imagine him as handsomely dashing and the kind of man you could definitely lose yourself to without reservation. I loved that he was actually leading a double life; a spy and an upstanding gentlemen of the ton. Daniel's story created a wonderful amount of suspense, which is what I love to read.

Lady Anna was just the type of woman I enjoy reading about ~ strong, independent, and with a mind of her own. She was even more interesting due to the fact that she defied society by running the orphanage in a section of London that was dangerous to a woman of her station.

I have to say that having a book with historical romance along with a good amount of suspense is at the very top of my list of good reads and Ms. Schroeder met and exceeded my expectations very well. I will definitely go back and read the first two installments in this series!!

Another great book by this author!

Historical romances are not always my "cup of tea" - However, I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Ms. Schroeder writes this genre well, including correct use of the time periods language.

Lady Anna is immediately likable as she is a woman with past drama, and sees fit to go against the grain of a privileged peer group to work in an orphanage in a bad part of town.

Daniel, the Earl of Bridgerton, is also set apart from that society in a complete different way. He is a spy, and must hide that fact from everyone.

I loved the back story of Anna and Daniel knowing each other since being very young and having pre-conceived notions about who the other one was.

I thought there was just enough sexual tension between the two that was really well written. When they waltzed together the first time, the tension was palpable.

I also really REALLY liked Anna! She was feisty without being shrewish, and was not a shrinking violet about what she wanted for her life. I loved the whole period correct dealing with familial obligations, the smatterings of hearing from other characters that in spite of titles and place they married for love, and I loved her bold flying in the face of what a noble woman should do as far as being charitable and a member of society.

Daniel was dashing, interesting, smart and enough of an Alpha male that he was not foppish.

As a whole, it is a lovely suspenseful tale with a good pair of characters that have great chemistry and just enough sex to be enticing without over-doing it. And I will definitely be looking forward to another installment in this series.
