PreS-Gr 1In this gentle bedtime rhyme, the world gets ready to go to sleep. The refrain, "Over the hill, behind the moon, the stars are waiting..." is repeated, as various wild animals and their young begin to settle down for the night. Rogers's accompanying soft-toned watercolor paintings of mice, bears, and foxes snug in their dens with their babies tucked all around them are particularly engaging and reassuring. The illustrations become increasingly darker, mirroring the progression toward evening. In the barn, the kittens curl up against their mother. Then, the lights go on in the farmhouse. Inside, as the stars are still waiting, three children prepare for bed. There are stories, hugs, and a reassuring bedtime routine as the siblings are tucked in. Consistent in tone and mood throughout, this title will be enjoyed by families for evening sharing.Lee Bock, Glenbrook Elementary School, Pulaski, WI
