A Good Mystery for Young Readers

My daughter has really gotten into mysteries this summer, and she liked this one so well she read it twice. The book has a park setting and a small town setting, and the action is not too mature for a young reader. Those are things of which I approve in books for children, especially mine. The friendships in the book are nicely portrayed too. The kids like each other and get along. We liked the outcome of this book, when everything was explained. There was even a small fairytale added for interest. We are planning to read more of the books in this series.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great Girl Detective Mystery

I am reminded of a slightly simpler version of the old Nancy Drew and Boxcar Children Mysteries, and a slightly more complex version of the Cam Jansen and Nancy Drew Clue Crew Mysteries. This series of books falls somewhere in between those I mentioned. I loved this mystery in particular because of the photography theme. This was similar to the movie Blow Up, where the photographer captures a murder in the background of some of his pictures. It is of course a different story and geared to kids, but it was a reminder of one of my favorite cult films of the sixties. Great girl detective mystery and just right for tweens, and those of us who like to reminisce.
