    Just a superb collection

I thought this was just going to be a skinny volume with a few bits of trivia thrown in - how wrong I was...! (And I should have known Bev better...!) When this parcel arrived on my desk my jaw just hit the floor

Bev has assembled a comprehensive look over the entire period of King writing with a pen picture of each book and really wonderful reproductions of early manuscripts, drafts and other odds and ends. The book design is superb and I really have to wonder how he did it for the price.

Bev - you've hit a home run here and I really look forward to seeing your next project.

    I Also Recommend:

The best biography that has been done on Stephen King!

This is definitely a book geared toward the many avid Stephen King fans out there. You know who you are. Some of you (like me) have been reading his novels since the mid-seventies; yet, in many ways, it seems like only yesterday that this magnificent author appeared on the scene with his first book, Carrie.

The Stephen King Illustrated Companion by Bev Vincent takes a close look at Stephen King's life from his early childhood right up to the present with words, photographs, and special treats for the collector. This is a large hardcover in the coffee-table-book format that is beautiful in design and informative in its details with numerous pictures of the master of horror (King, however, prefers to be thought of as simply a novelist) that few fans have ever seen. This book is certainly a collector's item in and of itself in that it contains large envelopes attached to each chapter, filled with state-of-the-art photocopies of King's earlier short stories as a young boy, manuscript pages from some of his bestsellers, letters to his fans and editors, a copy of the first Castle Rock Newsletter that the maestro sent out to his fans back during the eighties, and a host of other tidbits that will make you jump up and down in excitement.

Bev Vincent, also examines the major highlights of Mr. King's life, giving the reader a glimpse into the world of America's most famous writer and his inner battles with success and addiction. The author, like King, knows how to weave a great story and offers the reader an clear invitation to join him on this amazing journey into the life of a man who was clearly meant to be a writer and yet almost didn't make it. It took not only talent, but timing and luck as well.

The Stephen King Illustrated Companion is a must for all King fans. This is a book you will treasure for years to come and read over and over again, delighting in finding out about the life of a young man who eventually changed the course of horror and fantasy fiction, earning a just place beside such great authors as Poe, H.G. Wells, and Jules Verne.

    I Also Recommend:

so you call yourself "constant reader" do you?

if you truly want to live up to the name "constant reader", this book must sit on your bookshelf. mr. vincent takes stories that most constant readers know by heart and infuses them with new life by coupling them with reproductions of items that used to be out of reach.

stories, student newspapers, letters, and other memorabilia (thoughtfully encased in protective sleeves) snuggle in and between chapters highlighting portions of sai king's life and works. the combination breaths new life and pleasure into what could have just been another rehashing of tales we all love but already know.

mr. vincent is no stranger to sai king or his work, having written one of the definitive books on the dark tower series, and this book showcases not only his understanding of sai king's importance to his constant readers from a writer's perspective but also from the perspective of the constant reader himself.
