Between its first publication in 1883 and the turn of the century, this highly praised novel sold more than 100,000 copies. Now it has become a hot topic for feminist critics in Women's Studies and English Literature courses. The novel describes the plight of its orphaned heroine in Africa and expresses Schreiner's radical views on religion, marriage, and the search for self.

The Story of an African Farm is an account about a family and how they interact in a South African farm. This is a book that is hard to put down. With is unfamiliar depiction of life style unfamiliar , it still comes out as engaging, inspirational and real. This is striking thing about the story is its deep portrayal of women . This is a highly recommendable book for readers who want to get a good grasps of the different perceptions and treatment of women in our world. It reminded me of another great read, The Usurper and Other. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
