Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Benjamin Franklin was a complex man of many talents and a few of them are highlighted in this board book biography. It tells kids that he had very little formal education but learned to read at the age of three, and that he also enjoyed working as a printer and newspaper writer. He was an inventor who developed the Franklin stove and bifocals and proved that lightning is electricity. He also did much in his home city of Philadelphia where he published a newspaper, began a library and even established a volunteer fire department. His roles in the American Revolution and as an emissary in Europe are not really mentioned, nor is his famous Farmer's Almanac. A brief introduction to a great American that might whet kids appetites for books that go a bit further such as How Ben Franklin Stole the Lightning or Who was Ben Franklin? 2002, CandyCane Press/Ideals Publications,
