Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jillian Kobelin
This original classic German children's book now comes in a board book sound edition! After the little mole finds that someone has done its "business" on his head, he sets out in search of the culprit. As he investigates the droppings of different animals, readers can press the sound button for accompanying drops, plops, and splats. What landed on his head was not the thud of horse manure or the white splash of a bird, but the sausage-like poop of Basil, the butcher's dog. Kids will get a kick out of the mole's conniving (although slightly pitiable) retaliation. The story is accompanied by simple cartoon illustrations with a white background, sketched in muted neutrals and browns to emulate the book's main theme. Although the subject matter is crass and the sound effects vulgar, it is undeniable that children will giggle and guffaw their way through the story of the little mole and his mission to figure out whodunit.
