Children's Literature - Jody Little
As one title in the series, "The NBA: A History of Hoops," this book walks the reader through the history of the relatively young NBA franchise, the Miami Heat. In 1988, the Heat was one of four new teams added to the National Basketball Association. The early years for the Heat included players Rory Sparrow, Billy Thompson and Glen Rice, but the team was not successful in generating many wins. It wasn't until the 1993-1994 season that the Heat was able to get their first winning record, going 42-40, thanks to the leadership of forward Glen Rice. Then in 1995 the Heat hired former Los Angeles Laker's coach, Pat Riley, and their performance as a team improved. With players such as Tim Hardaway and Dan Majerle, the Heat began winning conference titles and appearing regularly in the play-offs. With the addition of Shaquille O'Neal in 2004, the Heat went on to win their first NBA championship in 2006. Basketball fans of all ages will enjoy the two-page color photos of Miami Heat stars, the quotes from famous players and coaches, and the easy-to-read text. Index and numerous sidebars are included.
