With Napoleon running loose, Alexander Sheffield was sent to fetch twelve year old Nicholas, the sole survivor of that particular family branch, from Russia. Easier said than done.

Octavia Hadley's father died, leaving her penniless. She survived by living with an ill-tempered cousin and acting as a nanny. However, her cousin's husband tried to force himself upon her. She ended up with no choice but to travel to Russia and accept the position as an English governess to the ward of a deputy minister at the embassy in Moscow. However, on the ship en route, she ran into Alexander.

**** This was an intriguing read! Octavia sure knew how to discourage unwanted attention from men! While Alexander was locating Nicholas, Octavia was helping Emma. Between the four of them I was entertained with many adventures and danger. An excellent book by Andrea Pickens. Recommended! ****

This is not the usual drawing room flirtation. It is set in the midst of a Russian winter with added danger from Napoleons army. The hero and heroine have two children to protect as well saving themselves. It was a clever touch to bring in quotes from books that existed in the Regency era.Sheffield's resort to alcoholism was definiately overworked .

I did not read this series, only this book, but it was a very good one! It shows how you can't judge a book by its cover!

I enjoyed all 3 of the books in this series, but this one had the most adventure and believable characters. The second book needs the last chapter rewritten to save the dignity of the hero.
