Vitamin's String Quartet Tribute to Jimi Hendrix seems more inspired than the label's usual lot of cash-ins and borderline novelty releases. "Stone Free" and "Purple Haze" are awash in fuzzy lead violins and a churning bottom end of viola and cello; "Manic Depression" gets downright tribal with its loping rhythms and layers of keening violin freakouts. Other highlights include the cello opening up into a roar for the main riff to "Foxey Lady," and the quieter moments of later entries "Little Wing" and "Wind Cries Mary."
