Overview

Considering that Vitamin regularly tags hitmaking rock & roll greenhorns with string tributes, it's about time the label got around to U.K. electronic veterans Massive Attack. Interpreted instrumentally for violin, viola, and cello, these versions of iconic material like "Safe From Harm," "Hymn of the Big Wheel," "Inertia Creeps," and "Teardrop" sound radically different. However, that's only on the surface, since the vocal and electronic elements are gone. The swooping violin leads, droning cello, and occasional bit of programming (on "Creeps," especially) give the songs an organic quality that's kind of striking in relation to the originals, and it makes for an intriguing listen for Massive Attack diehards. Other set highlights include "Unfinished Symphony," "Angel," and "Better Things."
