Overview

Sugar is the new controlled substance. The average American consumes up to 31 pounds of sugar a year, and a diet high in sugar can cause diabetes, obesity, and many other health crises. Our excess intake of sugar, from the white stuff on the table to the high-fructose corn syrup hidden in packaged foods, is not only making us sick, it’s making us fat and aging our skin. Now, nutritionist Brooke Alpert and dermatologist Patricia Farris team up in this revolutionary program that helps get the sugar out of your diet to recapture youthful skin and good health.

Designed to limit the amount of extra blood sugar, slim your waistline, increase your energy levels, and improve your skin, this combined approach to nutrition and skin care will make you feel—and look—better than you ever have before. The secret? A three-day detox plan to get the sugar out of your system and get you on the path to eating and living the healthiest way possible.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A classic example of a hammer in search of a nail, nutritionist Alpert and dermatologist Farris’s diet program is a haphazard blend of science and common sense that would have benefitted from more thorough editing. Assuming readers are already onboard, the authors begin with dietary guidelines and meal plans for the “3-Day Sugar Fix” and beautifying tips for the “3-Day Skin Fix” before readers are even told what they’re buying into. Mercifully, the two then work their way through various chapters regarding what to eat and drink (vegetables, green tea, etc.), what to avoid (white flour, soda), and which skin products to use, in addition to basic exercise tips and a list of items to eat or avoid when dining out. They close with a handful of recipes and meal plans. Numerous accolades from the authors’ patients and customers speak to the efficacy and life-changing aspects of the program. Readers will likely be disappointed by what amounts to a print infomercial. Agent: Dan Mandel, Sanford J. Greenburger Associates. (June)

Very good book, and easy to follow. This is one of the simplest formats I've read for kicking the sugar habit. I'm 7 says into the 31-day sugar detox and I can already tell it'll be a success. The book does have a few typos but nothing serious. The writers do a good job at making their point without being overly scientific or telling me things that I don't care about. The skin care aspect is an especially nice bonus as how many of us neglect our skin and then wonder why we look so worn down and haggard.

It's not just another fad diet. It promotes a lifestyle change. This book incorporates a scientific basis for everything but is very easy to read nonetheless. Good read... Good book...great dietary recommendations!

Interesting book about cutting sugar out of your diet. Not the best writing in the world, but the authors do get their point across (eventually).
