When Odin Hobbs had a heart attack he didn’t see lights or hear choirs, he just died for a few minutes. Ever since then, he’s been having incredibly vivid dreams. He’s beginning to wonder if they're more than what they seem. When he and his wife visit the Tropical Dream Resort, in an effort to patch their marriage, he learns the truth about his dreams, and then some.
The resort is hosted by Miss Ruby Hutchinson, a Jamaican administrator of distinction, who is also rumored to be a powerful Obeah woman. It’s a rumor she neither confirms nor denies. Her second-in-command, Jon Ericson is dealing with more than just his crush on the newest staff member. He’s also contending with Vincent Gratiot; a man who takes his job a little too seriously. At any other resort that wouldn’t be a problem, but unfortunately for the guests under his care, particularly Odin Hobbs, Vincent is the man in charge of their dreams.
During his stay, Odin runs into several guests, including an ugly duckling in the process of discovering she's quite an attractive swan, a lonely retiree in search of happiness (and sleep), a loud, perpetually grouchy widow and an odd Czech psychic. It’s a touching, dryly humorous story of life, death, near-death and a vacation at a beautiful Florida resort.
It was a dark and stormy night. A ‘54 Mercury tore into the parking lot of the hospital in Midland, Michigan. Moments later, a screaming, attention-starved baby entered the world from the passenger side. In the course of the following years, he screamed slightly less as he attended school in Midland, eventually graduating from nearby Central Michigan University. His early career path included stints as a paperboy, stage hand, piano mover, assistant plumber, and bartender. Despite protests from the media, he also participated in several local theatre and musical productions. Much to the delight of everyone in the area, except his mother, he moved to the west coast in 1981 to make his way in the fast-paced, high-paying world of aerospace. He has to date, managed to stay employed for more than twenty-five years on both the B-1B and Space Shuttle programs without doing serious damage to either program. Along the way, he also helped to produce and/or raise several children including Kathy, Brian, Alex, William, and Melissa. Much to his surprise, the prettiest woman he knows finally agreed to marry him. With their dog Buster and a large white Manx named Frost, they live in Central Florida, where he dreams of being a novelist.
