Overview

A digital edition short story about a wife coming to terms with her fading marriage, based on a subplot from Elin Hilderbrand's forthcoming novel BEAUTIFUL DAY

Margot's reservoir of romantic feelings for her husband Drum is running dry. But while the family is on vacation in Nantucket, Margot finds an opportunity to potentially regain her romantic love for her husband - in the form of Hadley Axelram, his ex-girlfriend. She is counting on jealousy as a relationship defibrillator.

But after forcing her surfing-god husband to make plans for a surfing lesson with Hadley and her son, Margot is left to reminisce about the summer she fell in love with Drum, and the unexpected blossoming of their relationship. When she sees Drum and Hadley spending time together, will the spark reignite - and will her marriage be saved? Or will she find that love is truly gone from this relationship?

This touching short story about a poignant stage in a marriage explores the backstory of Margot Carmichael, one of the stars in Elin Hilderbrand's new novel BEAUTIFUL DAY.

B&N really needs to start putting number of pages in the product details for each book they sell! It's very frustrating to pay money for nothing more than a sample length book.!!!

I really feel like B&N owe us a Refund of at least half of what we paid.I really enjoy reading this author BUT it needs to be clearly stated how short this story is . I READ SOME FREE SAMPLES LONGER THAN THIS STORY!!

What a joke! Only 45 pages. I've read all her books and was really looking forward to a new one so I preordered it. B&N should have included the fact that it's a VERY short story!

Unlike other reviewers I knew this was a short story as it said so in the descriptive paragragh. It was classic Elin Hilderbrand. The characters are interesting and as always she uses Nantucket as a character too. This was a nice treat while I wait for her yearly book to come out.

That was ridiculous to have to pay for. It was like she thought she could write a whole book, changed her mind, and ended it while still making her devoted readers pay for it. Terribly dissappointed.

Why is Barnes and Noble charging me $1.99 for a short story?!!!

I should have read the reviews before purchasing, as I did not realize that I was purchasing a short story. Very disappointed!

Rather unfortunate that you must read all information about a book prior to purchase----including the number of pages and the fact that you are actually paying for an introduction to another book by the same author. Shame on you B&N and Elin.

This book is 45 pages and makes zero sense! The first 15 pages are about one story - then witth little notice it goes to a different story about her sister! Very odd - do not buy

Like everyone else, i was not expecting this to be just 45 pages when I bought it. Seems like a great story cut sadly short :(

Just when you think there is a story, it's over. Not worth it, even if it was only $1.99

First of all I want to clarify that I am an Elin Hilderbrand fan, big time. But this little tease of a short story was very disappointing. I wanted more from the story! Good characters, good start to the book I was hooked and then...it was over! My thoughts? Why waste my time and money with this crap? Knowing Elin's writing...she could have taken this novel to an awesome level...why this was a short story? I have no explanation...The first time I can say I am dissatisfied...but only because I wanted more...

The end of this short story - 45 pages, BTW - had me mentally tossing up my hands and saying, "Really?!?!" Margot, Drum and their three kids are spending the last two weeks of the summer in Nantucket where Margot met and became infatuated with Drum (his real name is Drummond, which is still dopey, but not as bad as Drum) when she was a grad student of 25. He was a "surfer dude" and she was going to set the business world on fire. She ends up pregnant and they marry. She becomes a power player and he becomes Mister Mom. In the "present," they run into Drum's old lover, Hadley, and her two kids. Margot used to feel jealous of Hadley, but now only hopes that her jealousy resparks her feelings for Drum because she realizes she's feeling nothing for her husband but frustration and impatience. My beef is (1) none of the characters are fully fleshed out - why do they act/feel like they do? and (2) 45 pages is not nearly long enough to do justice to the characters and the conclusion.

Had no idea I was purchasing a 45 page short story. Taught me to ALWAYS read reviews first. Like this offer so when it was offered as the special of the day I didn't think twice....I purchased it. Mistake!

Disappointing book. Story line was okay, but the book seemed to end abruptly like the story wasn't finished. It was only 45 pages long.
