Fredrik Gustavsson never considered the possibility of love, or that anyone could ever understand or accept his dark and bloody lifestyleuntil he met Seraphina, a woman as vicious and blood-thirsty as Fredrik himself. They spent two short but unforgettable years together, full of lust and killing and the darkest kind of love that two people can share.

And then Seraphina was gone.

Its been six years since Fredriks lover and sadistic partner in crime turned his world upside-down. Seraphina went into hiding and has eluded him ever since. Now, hes getting closer to finding her, and an innocent woman named Cassia is the key to drawing Seraphina from the shadows. But Cassiaafter sustaining injuries from a fire that Seraphina ignitedsuffers from amnesia and cant give Fredrik the information he desperately seeks. Having no other choice, Fredrik has been keeping Cassia locked in his basement as he not only tries to get her to recall her pastbecause she and Seraphina share itbut also to protect her from Seraphina, who clearly wants her dead.

But Cassia is a light in the darkness that Fredrik never believed existed. After a year subjected to her kindness and compassion, he finds himself struggling with his love for Seraphina, and his growing feelings for Cassiabecause he knows that to love one, the other must die.

Will light win out over darkness, or will something more powerful than either further destroy an already tortured soul?

Dark and heart wrenching, that's what this book was. Still, I loved it and could not put it down. I loved the previous two books about Sarai/Izabel and did not know the series would continue to tell Fredick's story. Very hard to read at times, but the story could not have been more appropriate for this very dark character. I am honestly very impressed by how the author managed to bring humanity to these very violent and flawed characters. And that's what makes this series so captivating. Highly recommend it!

You can find this review and lots of other awesome reviews on my blog, KDH Reviews. My reviews for the previous two books can be found on my blog. I was excited when I started this book. After all, learning more about Fredrik is exactly what I wanted. Well, The Swan and the Jackal certainly didn't disappoint. In fact, I'd even go as far to say that this is my favorite book of the series. There are twists and surprises that I certainly didn't expect. And after everything was said and done, I just love Fredrik that much more. Now, here's the thing with this book. It seems that (from the reviews I've read) The Swan and the Jackal is one of those polarizing books. There are those that absolutely love it (like myself) and then those that hate it. While I don't agree with those that hate it, I can understand why they do. This book shows Fredrik in a different light than he has been previously portrayed in. It may be jarring for some to see him so absolutely different than what they've come to expect and hence they don't enjoy this book nearly as much. However, I say give it (and Fredrik) a chance. It's worth it. So, if you haven't started the series yet, what are you waiting for? It's fantastic! And a new book should be out soon (in less than a month!).

I've read all the books with this series so far and needless to say, I couldn't wait to read this one. I was completely glued to nook! This was quite a bit darker than the others in the series, but amazing nontheless. My heart broke with the characters. Redmerski has a way of making you understanding the monster within the man. It's odd, but you really do care about Fredrick and I found myself rooting for him to find happiness, and after all the pain in his life, I feel he deserves it, despite all his cruelty. I like that he only targets people that are evil, however saddened that he could never over come his own demons. There is a twist that I couldn't believe and made my heart pound with excitement, and at the same time wondering how in the world that this situation could be desolved. Fedrick is a true victim of the hand he was dealt in life. Redmerski made me to understand the monster living inside the man. I ached for his pain and rooted for him to "find his light" . If circumstances had been different for him, I honestly feel he would have been a good man. I can't wait to read more of Redmerski's books. The lady sure can create a story!

The story was far fetched and the sex, well just sucked! I don't care to read about the woman you love having sex with 12+ guys and giving BJs during it and then getting fisted. Really? Please try harder to write something worthwhile. And I read a lot of BDSM. Save yourself the money.

I love the series! It's a departure from The Edge of Never series, but a fantastic edge-of-your-seat mystery! I can't wait to learn more about Izabel & Fredrick!

Everytime I would get to the end of a chapter, I would tell myself I couldn't just stop right there...and so I kept going. This was such a dark thriller and I loved it so much!

Enjoyed the story and building of the characters.

Story is well written, intriguing and keeps your mind going. Because this was a dark romance with no happily ever after, I did not like it as well as the previous two books in this series. That being said, this story is worth reading and you will become emotionally engrossed in the characters. Since this book provided an adequate depiction of Fredrik's childhood, I will not be reading the prequel on Fredrik due out later this year. However, I hope the author will develop another story that gives the reader a glimpse of a happier future for him. I really liked Fredrik inspite of his dark side and think he has earned a happily ever after.
