River Bend Series - Book 2

Tully Morgan hasn’t been back to Marietta for more than a few brief visits since the night of the 1996 senior prom eighteen years ago, when the chance exposure of a long-held family secret sent her running to her uncle in California in shock. She stood up her date Ren Fletcher that night, and she hasn’t seen him since.

Now she’s here for an extended stay, to help take care of her seriously ill mother. It’s an edgy reconciliation, the first time that Tully, Patty and Sugar Morgan have been together since that long ago prom night. Tully has had so much anger toward Sugar… can she ever forgive her?

And Sugar still has one more secret that needs to be dealt with, one that needs Ren Fletcher’s help. Has he forgiven Tully for leaving him in the lurch on prom night? And is there any chance that he and Tully can rekindle what they might once have had, when he’s still tied to someone else?

Ceesh! A few more words and the plot spoiler review left on December 24, 2014 would have been almost as long as the book. This 249 page book was perfectly edited. There was some profanity, but the f word was, thankfully, nonexistant. There was quite a bit of sex, but not until the last half of the book. No religion or homosexuality. There is some alcohal use, teenage sex, drug and child neglect and abuse. There was a lot of past drug use by Sugar, a pregnancy at 13, a pregnancy and subsequent adoption later on. This book is about a former wild child, returning home to die from cancer, and the impact her past and current actions have on her family. I really can not understand sending a child away, within several hours, after she finds out about a tramatic secret at age 16, but each family is different. The ending was very abrupt and could have been better. I am not writting of miracle cures, but I would have liked to know what the future held for Tully, Ren, Patty, David and Charles. This is a very sad book. Tissue sad. There is romance and the usual plot lines which accompany such. As usual one or more parents are deceased, there is a friend"s death, teenage angst, some characters could have been left out as they had no impact on the story. The author published quite a few romances, which are selling for $4.99. This book is book 2 of a series, book one and the rest sell for $2.99. This is not a typical run of the mill romance, but the reader knows well in advance what is going to occur. Chick lit, ages 18 and up. Not as cheesy and sexually vulgar as most. This book did hold my interest. AD

Great book. Worth reading. I wish it had a longer, more emotional ending, but the entire book lead to the conclusion.

This book is unbelievable, so many layers. It has family secrets, second chances and romance. The story is mainly about Tully and Ren. Tully is back home to help care for her older sister, who is dying from cancer. It turns out her older sister, Sugar, is her mom. Sugar is trying to find her son, whom she gave up for adoption. Ren, is the lawyer helping Sugar. Ren is also the guy, who Tully stood up to on their highschool senior prom. So many secrets come out in this book, does Sugar have enough time to right things right. I absolutely loved this book. Fair warning have chocolates and tissues on hand, they will be needed.

The Sweetest Thing by Lilian Darcy The Sweetest Thing is a lovely book by new-to-me author Lilian Darcy. "Sugar" has led a rough life and is nearing the end. She has come home to be with her mother to die. Tully has come home from California to help her mother and come to terms with Sugar who has negatively affected Tully's live too many times in the past to count. Tully needs to forgive Sugar so she can heal and live her life. Enter Ren Fletcher, Tully's "almost" prom date and hometown lawyer. Sugar hires Ren to find someone from her past. Ren and Tully find that the spark is still there, and a wonderful "fling" ensues. But the timing and geography are wrong. Ren is just getting out of a long-time stagnant marriage and isn't ready to settle down and Tully is ready for it all. This is a bittersweet story and Darcy has done a lovely job telling it.

Thanks a lot to Anonymous "Ceesh!", CatmomJD "A sister not a sister but her mother" and Anonymous "The Godmodding Rules" I rated the book as neutral, because I no longer need to read it. In future, I'll never again read any review that's more than 5 lines long.

The premise was appealing but the story itself wasn't orchestrated well and the ending was sudden. I enjoyed the read well enough but it could have been so much better.

I cried at the end. It wrapped up a little quick but the rest of the book was very poignant and real.

I am not a big romance novel fan. I did, however, really ejoyed this book. It was a sweet love story. It was a sweet story about forgiveness. I plan to read the others in the series to better get to know the residents of Marietta, Montana.

Coming back home after a long time away sometimes brings of the truth out. This is a really good book. It has a few twist, but it is a must to read.

Well written and emotional. I enjoyed it very much. The storyline was laid out well and the characters were defined. Difinitive ending. Didn't have to worry about buying the next book in the series but I'll be looking for more from this author.

A sister who isn't really a sister, but her mother. The prom date she stood up 18 years ago. A brother no one knew about. Tully Morgan's life hasn't been easy and it's about to get even more complicated. Tully is coming home to help her mother (who everyone thinks is her sister) in her final stages of cancer. She wants to finally make amends with her and try to build some kind of relationship before her time is up. At the chocolate shop buying candy for her mother Sugar, she runs into Ren Fletcher, the boy she stood up for their date when she left home for California after finding out Sugar (the addict who came and left as she pleased) really wasn't her sister, but her mother. Ren has changed. He's no longer the nerdy boy he used to be. He's grown into an attractive man who is now a lawyer in the town of Marietta where they grew up. Lots of memories come back. Ren is in the process of divorcing his wife, the girl he hooked up with after prom. Can you really turn back the clock and make up for lost time? Sugar had done four good things in her life, she gotten clean, gone off the game, gave her son up for adoption and now found him. She was running out of time. Can she fit in one more good thing before it's too late? Can she do the sweetest thing yet?

This book was so bad, I couldn't even force myself to finish it. The main character, Tully (I assume she's the main character, you really can't tell) gets lost in the non-story. I read over half this book and really couldn't tell you what the story is suppose to be. Even for Free you'd be paying too much! I only gave it one star because B&N had to have a star rating.
