The Sweetheart Sisters are ready to give some old-school lessons in love…

Rescue Bay veterinarian Diana Tuttle is a great single mom, but she has a harder time taking care of herself. Coast Guard Lieutenant Mike Stark has never wanted to settle down. But when his ex-wife leaves their two small children on his doorstep, he is forced to become a family man in a hurry. His return to Rescue Bay, Florida and fatherhood isn’t easy, but reconnecting with Diana makes the challenge all the more worthwhile. Except becoming the long-term lover she has in mind may be one commitment too many…

Luckily, when Diana’s and Mike’s pasts begin to threaten their future, the Sweetheart Sisters have the perfect scheme to make this second chance last a lifetime.

Jump’s second Sweetheart Sisters contemporary (after The Sweetheart Bargain) brings together two flawed yet appealing single parents searching for love. Veterinarian Diana Tuttle, who’s raising a 15-year-old son, seems, on the surface, to have it all together. But when her ex-lover Mike Stark, a Coast Guard lieutenant, returns to her sleepy Florida beach community with his two daughters in tow, her peaceful life is disrupted. Mike’s abusive stepfather made it hard for him to be comfortable with anything but strict routines, and when his flaky ex leaves eight-year-old Jenny and four-year-old Ellie with him, he doesn’t have the first idea of how to be a good father. Enter the scheming grannies of the Golden Years Retirement Home, who have one happy couple under their belts—and are aiming for another. Diana and Mike lurch toward love, slowly learning that perfection is not a prerequisite for being a parent, in this heartwarming and charming story. (Apr.)

Shirley touched that animal lover in me with all the characters who were a different species-- As usual, one can pick up a book in the middle of Shirley's series' titles and it won't matter because we get a great subtle history of the relevant details. I loved the so-called banter between the senior characters who were a wrong fit from the start. Mike and Diana's relationship followed a typical path but with some surprises thrown in. Shirley's portrayal of Mike's daughters fit in with my vision of what girls those ages act like. I enjoyed the storylines and will go back and read the first story in this series (The Sweetheart Bargain) as well as the third (The Sweetheart Secret) when it is released.

This is the second book of A Sweetheart Sisters series, but is also a stand alone if you missed the first one. The story is about two single parents who discover each other for a second time.. Mike Stark, who's ex-wife dropped off their two kids and walked away, must learn how to raise them...quickly. Diana Tuttle, who is a great single mom, still has issues from her dealing with her sons dad. Shirley Jump weaves a tale full of emotion, humor, matchmaking, and sometimes tears in a way that makes you connect with the characters and cheer for a "happy ever after". I'll be watching for the third book in this series coming out in September 2014....The Sweetheart Secret .

Shirley Jump brings readers the second book in her Sweetheart Sisters series, The Sweetheart Rules. Jump writes contemporary romance novels that grab the heart and won't let go. In this installment of the series, she not only focuses on love between the main couple, but also on family love and parenting. Jump gives readers a man who doesn't know how to be a father and woman, who is struggling with a teenage son. It's a match made in heaven. With three eccentric old ladies bent on matchmaking and three great kids, this is a great addition to the series. What I liked: Mike wouldn't have won any awards for great parenting skills when this novel started. He hadn't seen his daughters in some time and really wasn't even thinking about them, when his ex wife decided she needed to sort out her life and left the girls with him. It was interesting to see him struggle with the little girls and their issues. From tantrums to a child growing up long before her time, Mike has his hands full and when he meets Diana again things get that much more complicated. I wasn't sure I liked Mike until I began to see that he knew he was screwed up and wanted to change. It just goes to show you, that when you make up your mind to change you can. I loved that aspect of the book. Mike wasn't such a good lover either. After a one night stand, he left Diana with a nasty note and never looked back. Now he is realizing his mistake and is determined to show her that he has changed. I liked the fact that he took an interest in her son's problems as well as in her. It showed that he really was trying to do things differently.  Diana was a great heroine. She was struggling with a lot and her son didn't make things any better. She kept trying to make excuses for his father's lack luster behavior as a dad and only making things worse. I enjoyed watching her finally face up to how he was and stand behind her son. I thought she had some serious issues of her own with abandonment, but eventually she gets it all together and turns into a good heroine. She was spunky, but she needed some courage to get her going in the right direction. Mike and Diana together made an interesting couple. They were certainly both flawed and very human. I liked the matchmaking ploys of the old ladies and the good romantic scenes. This book had a little something for the new adult reader as well as those of us who are a little older. There was a lot of humor and some moments where tissues might be in order. What I didn't like: Both sisters in the series so far have had issues with running away from those that love them. Finding the same issue in the second book in the series seemed repetitious in a way and I thought Jump could have used something more original to provide the needed conflict for the story. Bottom Line: This was a good book, but probably not my favorite from this author. She has written a ton of contemporary titles and some of them are hard to top. But this read provides a feel good story with a lot of emphasis on family.

The sisters are back! In this sexy and sweet follow-up to The Sweetheart Bargain (not that you had to have read the first to enjoy this one!), we return to Rescue Bay. Now that Olivia is happy in her relationship with Luke, we're ready to see Diana happily settled. When Luke's friend Mike returns, the spark between Diana and Mike rekindles -- in a big, sexy way! But Mike brings his two daughters with him, daughters with whom he is trying to rebuild a relationship since his job has made him an absentee father. Shy, sweet veterinarian Diana is the perfect woman to help him do this. Unfortunately, Mike is still convinced he is not the settling down type...or so he thinks! Jump has us rooting for this couple all the way. I am so pleased with the return of Greta, Luke's pleasantly matchmaking-minded grandmother who has a suitor of her own. Jump's novel is important in that she does away with the stereotype of senior citizens just sitting down in retirement communities waiting to pass. Jump's tender rendering of a man reconnecting with not only his daughters, but his own vulnerabilities and ability to love long term, is touching. Mike tells the story, at Luke's urging, of his saving a bear cub that has his head stuck in a peanut butter jar. After he tells it, Mike sees a picture his daughter, Jenny, drew of the scene with the word "rescue." We know his apparently jaded, uncaring older daughter is not so unmoved, but is hoping he will save her and her sister, Ellie, from the neglect they suffer at the hands of their uncaring mother. It's not a coincidence that this book is set in Rescue Bay: Jump taps into the fact that we all need rescuing in one way or another. She does it in such an entertaining way that we don't even realize she's teaching us how to live better lives, too.

This is Shirley's second book in the Sweetheart sister series. I loved this book & read it in one sitting!!! I loved the family dynamics between single Mom Diana who is the town vet and her son Jackson, as well as her relationship with her sister Olivia whom she met in the Sweetheart Bargain. It was also fun to read about the relationship Mike Stark has with his 2 young daughters. How they went from not really having a relationship to loving one another and becoming a family. There is also the fact that they both have secrets & issues they have to resolve before they can get their happily ever after. I also laughed at Greta & her gang trying to create a romance between Diana & Mike, as well as Greta dealing with her neighbor Harold Twohig. Shirley is a master at creating characters you love & you get caught up in their problems, mistakes, emotions & their happiness. I laughed and cried while reading this book and can't wait til the next one in the series.

Edition) This is the second book in the Sweetheart series. It is a book about two old ladies who are determined to match everyone around the town of Rescue Bay but themselves. Actually, It' a book about a single mother, Diana, who is a vet and also runs the animal shelter next door. Diana has a past full of secrets and a teenage son with an attitude. A few months ago, she met Mike, a Coast Guard mechanic who is best friends with her sister's fiancé. They had one night of passion and he left the next morning with nothing but a note on the table. Mike has now returned with his 2 daughters who his ex-wife dumped on him for 30 days. Mike has secrets of his own but, neither he nor Diana have been able to let go of the passion they feel whenever they see each other. Shirley Jump is a pro at wrapping you up in her characters, their problems, their angst, their love, their mistakes and, ultimately, the ways they manage to work their way back to happiness. As usual, she has done an excellent job with this book. You will love it.(
