Mike Hamel's Matterhorn, the Brave

Adventure, Danger, and Inspiration

Matthew Horn (a.k.a. Matterhorn) is a brave knight-when he isn't busy being a typical twelve-year-old boy. Few people have heard of him, which isn't surprising, for most of his adventures happen in other times and places. And like all who know how to travel, he can do so without drawing attention to himself.

Matt's adventures begin one afternoon while browsing through some musty books in an obscure, neglected corner of his middle school library. One book literally demands his attention. Surprisingly, the book contains a nondescript title page followed by one blank page after another. While quizzically leafing through the blank pages, Matt discovers a portal into time travel and is suddenly introduced to a series of wild adventures filled with danger, mystery, and intrigue. As a result, Matterhorn and his friends (Aaron the Baron and others) travel around the globe and off it. Their adventures take them under the Earth and over the moon. Not bad for kids who don't even have driver's licenses.

The Sword and the Flute is volume 1 in the new Matterhorn the Brave series.

    BEST SERIES EVER

A MUST read for kids who love an abundance of adventure, unforgetable characters and intense excitment! My 12 year old absolutley LOVES this series and the writing style of the author. When your child takes these books EVERYWHERE in order to keep reading to find out what happens next, you know the author has hit on something few do. To quote my child..."It's the BEST series in the world!". We hope to see more publised by this author in the near future!!

    more from this reviewer

    I love this new series!

Yes! Here we have a series of books designed for young readers (and old too!) that will keep them on the edge of their seats without scaring their pants off! The Matterhorn the Brave Series is full of mystery and danger but is family friendly and great for reading aloud like I did for my kids. We loved the characters - Matthew Horn (aka Matterhorn), Aaron the Baron, Queen Bea... come on, isn't that too cool :-) And in addition to being totally unique and inspired (Four young people are recruited to keep an eye on the portals of earth that connect all space and time), Mike Hamel is gifted in the art form of leaving the reader gasping for more! The chapters are just the right length to give lots of info and adventure, but not too long that my kids would start losing their focus and then all of a sudden - BAM! He drops the perfect cliffhanger to the chapter and you just have to read on to the next chapter - sheer genius! My kids were always saying... "Just one more chapter!?!"

We still have to get the rest of the series, but with such a great start, my kids are begging for more Matterhorn adventures!

    Great Book!!!

A powerful sword. A magical flute. A bone hand! The Sword and the Flute, By Mike Hamel, has all of the characteristics of a good book! It has adventure, mystery, action, suspense and more! I started reading 'The Sword and the Flute' after my brother recommended it to me. The best choice I have ever made was picking up that book. I opened it up, and refused to put it down until I finished! As soon as I put it down, I picked up the next one, because the first is so good! The whole series is amazing! OUTSTANDING!

    It's more than just a children's book.

This entire series captivates me. I usually read adult books, but these are such an irresistible mix of adventure, mystery, and wit, they draw me back for multiple rereads.
