Need to Kill an Evil Wizard? Send a Warrior Girl!

Megani, a beautiful young girl blessed with immense powers, uses her gifts to keep the peace in Trinity. But a demon Wizard has other plans! The clever beast strips Megani of her strength and leaves her helpless so that he alone can rule. During the quest to regain control of her kingdom, Megani befriends a mysterious historian, a warrior archer, and a strange orphan girl named Lyndi, but they have their own secrets. Will they help or hinder Megani's cause? If she could only recover the long-lost Sword of Anton, Megani just might be able to destroy the Wizard.

Gene Del Vecchio is a world-renowned expert on youth and the author of Atticus Award-winning Creating Ever-Cool: A Marketer's Guide to a Kid's Heart and The Blockbuster Toy! How to Invent the Next BIG Thing. The Sword of Anton is the sequel to his first young-adult novel, The Pearl of Anton, also published by Pelican.

Praise for Gene Del Vecchio's The Pearl of Anton:

"Del Vecchio has created a richly detailed world. The climactic battle is claustrophobic and convincing, and the suspense leading up to it is almost overwhelming. Del Vecchio's first YA fantasy, this is sure to make a splash among genre fans."
--Booklist starred review

"Del Vecchio creates an interesting . . . world and creation story for Trinity. . . . Perhaps the most important aspect of the work is that Del Vecchio does not underestimate his audience."

Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Kristin Fletcher-Spear
Sequel to The Pearl of Anton (Pelican, 2004/VOYA October 2004), this novel is the story of the next generation of the Royal House of Del. Jason Del has died, and a wizard long thought dead has been biding his time, and now is causing havoc in Trinity. First the races of Elves and Dwarves are destroyed through a string of events starting with the Wizard's implanting of false memories in the Kings' minds. The Wizard then combats the last of the Dels, Jason's daughter Megani, stealing all of her magical powers. Her only hope of conquering this invading Wizard is to get the Sword of Anton and go to the neighboring land of Devon. Del Vecchio gives readers enough key points from the first book that it is not necessary to have read it to follow this story. Unfortunately this reiteration of the past story bogs down many parts of the text. The story is a standard fantasy with two quests happening simultaneously, leaving the reader embroiled in constant action. The final battle between the Wizard and Megani is anticlimactic, even with almost everyone perishing. The Wizard is a caricature of villainy. The unnecessary epilogue wraps up the story nice and tightly while still leaving a little opening for another adventure. Fantasy readers may enjoy this traditional style of quests and adventures, and the non-genre reader will find it accessible.
