Tammy Wynette grew up on a sharecropper farm in Itawamba County, Mississippi. To stay out of the cotton fields, she learned to cook as a child, and her fondest memories were of her mother and grandmother in the kitchen, with the smell of fried apple pie wafting through the house. From these humble beginnings, Mrs. Wynette went on to perform on every continent, in hundreds of cities, and in almost every state in the U.S.
