Overview

Miss Politt has been waiting and waiting outside Laburnum Cottage for Mrs. Spenlow, to no avail. She nervously acquires the help of her next-door neighbor, whose gumption and persistence reveal that Mrs. Spenlow is dead on the hearthrug. The whole of St. Mary Mead is convinced the murderer is Mr. Spenlow, who shows no emotion upon his wife’s sudden death, but, with characteristic diligence, Miss Marple reveals that it is perhaps not that simple.

This is a very good short story. It is NOT a book, only 15 pages long.

To short a short story

I wasn't sure how this was going to be wrapped up in 20 pages, but it did nicely. Miss Marple does it again!

I love Agatha Christie but this short story wasn't worth a dollar. No twists or anything...

The brevity of this book is the only think that may bother you. If you love Dame Christie's work, this is a fast foray into whodunits. Gone are the descriptions of local, home, etc. It's a boiled down, but meaty, version of character, crime, and resolution.

I never tire of Agatha, either in print or on a big or little screen. just the best in mystery.
