Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Meredith Kiger
Part of the marketing plan for the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, this silly story follows the foibles of Flint Lockwood, local kid inventor in the town of Swallow Falls. Swallow Falls used to be famous for sardines but that thrill has past and the town mayor is looking for a new gimmick to attract visitors. Flint is in the process of inventing a food machine, after a few false starts, that operates on water. When Flint tells the mayor, he insists on trying it out at the grand opening of the town's new amusement park. The contraption, which operates from the air, begins spitting out cheeseburgers! The mayor is thrilled and urges Flint to operate the machine at maximum level. Of course, it goes haywire, spewing food everywhere, and Flint must rely on a previous invention to bring the madness to a halt. Unfortunately for youngsters interested in this silliness, most of the foods created are less than nutritional. Wacky illustrations mimic those of the movie's animation.
