Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
This book is a well-written addition to this important section of a collection. With a conversational text and straightforward topics, teens will be able to easily get answers to questions about their health. Topics include sexual development, eating right, working out, and descriptions of diseases such as cancer and diabetes. There are accurate and detailed drawings of the body, discussions of STDs and suggestions for dealing with depression. Students will appreciate the mature tone of the writing. Because of the brevity of the book, some issues are just touched on for a paragraph, but hopefully will provide students with the basic information they need, and the ability to look further if they need to. The overall tone emphasizes physical and mental health vs. "looking good" on the outside. This is a message we need to get to students as often as possible. I especially liked the listings of fat and calories of fast food meals, and the suggestions for improving diet. Includes a list of phone numbers for support groups and information.
