All Music Guide - John D. Luerssen
On their fifth album, Anti-Flag position themselves as punk's foremost peace activists. And with the 2004 Presidential election looming at the time of its release, the Pittsburgh quartet's delivery of The Terror State couldn't have been better timed. Aiming fourteen aural bombs straight at George W. Bush, the group's incendiary musical charge is heightened by the contagious sloganeering of mouthpiece Justin Sane. "Turncoat" launches the disc, with the frontman painting Dubya as a war-happy liar. Escorted by an infectious chorus that even the staunchest Republicans would have trouble resisting, the fast, declarative tune makes way for alluring numbers like "Tearing Down the Borders," and the expansive "Death of a Nation." The latter -- structured around a 40-year old Woody Guthrie lyric -- bears both the sonic and the non-conformist political influence of the disc's executive producer, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. At Morello's suggestion, Pearl Jam engineer Nick DiDia was brought in to give The Terror State its large and full sound. And judging by spirited, percolating items like "Mind the G.A.T.T." and "You Can Kill the Protestor," Anti-Flag's controversial messages are matched with volatile yet affable arrangements. Sure, its never-ending protest tact gets a little redundant after a while even the Clash had a love song here and there, but questioning the motives of world leaders through the forum of punk is something will never go out of style.

    Loud, Fast, Good.

This is the musical equivalent of being shot at. While you're just comprehending the last song thrown at you, another one comes flying your way. Terrifically fast and catchy, stands (and will stand) as a solidly obnoxious album. I've been listening for 7 years and they just get better.

    Wow

I am not a fan of newer punk. I love old punk, and hate pop punk. That is not what punk is about! God, they missed the point. And Emo. The older Emo was okay but some people *ahem*Dashboard-confessional,Taking-Back-Sunday *ahem* changed it to a different thing (Emo=Emocore=Emotional hardcore). So anyway, this is an exception. A good tune with awsome lyrics. If you like older punk and some newr punk, this album is great.

    Anti-Flag is AMAZING

Anti-Flag rocked phoenix so hard at warped tour June 30th. Turncoat is a wonderful song. Their set was awesome, down with the bush regime and we know kerry isn't the best, but he is the answer to the bush enigma. Down with Bush and down with War. Peace will reign free when true freedom is given. Screw the draft and true patriotism is questioning what your government tells you. Peace to all

    best album yet

I dont care what everyone says, this is the best album yet...all songs are crazy good, if a bit poppy, but that makes them catchy and makes you really think about the message...by the way, go buy Rock Against Bush, on the dvd is the video for turncoat and an awesome anti-flag song, the school of assasins.

    Anti-Flag's Commercial Album

Finally Anti-Flag has a commercial album and single. The Album being Terror State, which is one of thir best, The single is Turncoat, which is actually getting air-play. The CD starts out great and ends great. Turncoat (The CD's opener) is the perfect single for the band to release, it's catchy so people want to listen to it and at the same time it sends the perfect Anti-Flag message. Other good songs are Post-War Breakout, Mind The G.A.T.T. and One People One Struggle. If you have the limited edition with the bonus song F**k The Flag make sure you listen to the whole Cd to hear that song. It's only about 50 seconds long but it's really intersting. The Album is anti-Bush, which is what all Americans should be. POWER TO THE PEACEFUL!
