Once upon a time �

How often have we heard those magical words as a reader? From an early age, we get wrapped up in tales of what-if. Many of the original fairytales were darker. In college, I took an entire class on the originals. Rather than a stepmother, the young woman �Snow White or Cinderella � was originally sent away by her mother, right at the age of puberty. Her rescuer wasn�t a prince, but her father. Too real? So they were cleaned up, revamped and slapped with a happily ever after.
