Author Hooks admits to adding his own flourishes to this tale from the Great Smoky Mountains. Rooter and Oinky, setting out to build their own homes (from rocks as advised by mama), are tricked by the old drooly-mouth wolf, and are added to his larder for a future day. Hamlet, the baby pig sister, is far wiser that her brothers. As the wolf attempts to trick her into letting him into her home of rocks, she turns the tables. After trapping the wolf in a butter churn, she ventures to the holler and rescues her brothers.
