When I began to read this book from the beginning I could tell that it was going to be a page turner from beginning to end. And boy was I right. Ms. Parks is a magnificent writer and I wonder why she is just now showing up on the scene. With books like this one and Loose Ends she should have been out a long time ago. I would recommend this book to all who enjoy good writing.

A deep look at control, friendship, family and the longing for individuality. Electra Rome Parks cleverly combines the three.

For the most part we stay within our boundaries as friends, co-workers, husband and wife, and so on and so forth, but what happens when that line is crossed? The Ties That Bind, by Electa Rome Parks, introduces three individuals, Mia, Brice, and Christian, whom have more of a connection than meets the eye. Mia is a twenty-two year old college student with dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher. Focused and ready to accomplish her goal, things take a turn when she meets her knight and shining armor, Brice. After only dating for a short time, Brice and Mia decide to take it to the next level and officially ¿tie the bind¿. Mia puts her life on hold to be the perfect wife, later finding out there is a lot more to matrimony than she thought. Brice, a thirty year-old military man and known ¿playa¿, has finally met the woman of his dreams and is ready to settle down and start his role as literally ¿The Man of the House¿. A little too overprotective and demanding, Brice is determined to have an old-fashioned marriage. Christian, taken in by Brice's family while in high school, considers Brice his brother and best friend. Enough of a brother to keep an eye on his new wife, Mia, while he travels away for his job. Christian is caught off guard by the qualities of his best friend's new wife, leaving him to second guess himself and his friendship. Like most marriages the honeymoon period only lasts so long, resulting in the inevitable, true marriage. As the romance starts to fade, a life threatening situation starts to surface, but the real question is: When is enough, enough? Electa Rome Parks has truly made an unforgettable novel, The Ties That Bind, that awakens its readers to the old saying, 'You really don't know someone until you have lived with them'.

This book was so good from beginning to end. I was thoroughly impressed and glad that I was told about it. The characters were real. You could relate. You could feel the things as they were happening. This is a must read. Electa has skillz for a newcomer and I can't wait to see what more she has to offer. Keep up the good work.

This is a great book for book clubs. The Ties That Bind pulls you in from page one and deals with a variety of topics from infidelity, to spousal abuse to loving someone too much. It was so realistic and makes us take a good look at ourselves. I'll read this author again.

I want to say great job to Ms. Parks. I had the opportunity to meet her at a booksigning a month ago. Ms. Parks is not only a great storyteller, but very personable as well. This was a great story because it was so real. Women have to learn that we can't change these men we get in relationships with. Love won't make everything okay. Unfortunately, Mia, one of the main characters had to find that out for herself. Brice had issues learned at his daddy's lap and Christian was a strong black man because some of that stuff Mia was doing. . . . All I can say, just read the book. Can't wait for the next one!

I always try to support new African-American authors who are publishing their works. So when I heard about The Ties That Bind, I decided to give Electa Rome Parks a try. To say the least, I wasn't disappointed. Mia, Christian and Brice pull you into the story immediately. It's like coming home to friends. You get to know their joys and pains. The author, Electa Rome Parks, does an excellent job of taking readers into these characters lives and minds. Brice is a trip, Mia needs to grow up and Christian is torn. Yet we root for them to be happy. If you're looking for a good read, a page-turner, drama, sensual scenes, then look no further. I'm anxiously awaiting the next one. Kudos on a job well done!

The Ties That Bind is a true page-turner in every sense of the word. I'd try to come to a stopping point and come back later to continue. . . I couldn't do it. The adventures and antics of Mia (girl, stop flirting), Brice (ooh so BAD), and Christian (where can I find one) kept me wanting more. You get to know the characters too well. You talking drama, more drama, deceit, control, infidelity. . . you have it all. Life is not fairy tales and this new author, Electa Rome Parks, does an excellent job of conveying that. Sometimes we get more than we bargain for in relationships. I highly recommend The Ties That Bind from this new author that is on the move. Check it out and I can't wait for the next one Ms. Parks.

We all want a loving and happy life, like the characters in this book. But beware of the road you may have to travel to get there for it is not always a smooth ride. This book reveals how complex relationships can be but how necessary they are. This was an enjoyable read and you will most likely find someone you can identify with. I wanted to write to the characters and tell them 'no, don't go there'. The fact that I couldn't may it even better. For a first timer, Ms. Parks, had a lot to say. Looking forward to the next one.
