As a mother of five active and involved children, I found DeAnne Flynn's book to be exactly the advice I needed to reorganize my priorities. Reading The Time-Starved Family was thoroughly inspiring and entertaining. As a mother, I related to every word and found myself laughing and crying and ultimately feeling joyful and uplifted about my journey as a parent. If I could, I would give a copy to every woman I love and admire, as a guide to creating a wonderful home.

While I went into reading this book thinking it wasn't for me (because we are not currently over-scheduled with extra-curricular activities), I found MANY truths that apply to all families regardless of size and circumstance. As a mother of 6 kids, I often feel overwhelmed, but as DeAnne Flynn suggests, we need to focus on the things that matter most--preparing to meet God. I think we do need to simplify and get back to the basics of scriptures, prayers, family home evening, spending time together as a family, as Flynn states. By doing these things, it will ultimately prepare us and our children for life and the eternities. From over-scheduling to homework to organizing our lives and our homes, Flynn covers it all. Summing it up--you need to find what works for your family, and if it isn't working, you need to simplify and eliminate. Great book for families! Was this review helpful? As a mom of four highly driven children who have jam-packed schedules, I picked up this book hoping for some guidance on how to regain control of our family time. This book was filled with a lot of thought-provoking discussions on why we over schedule our lives, why our families need time together, and ideas on how to reassert control over our lives. I appreciated DeAnne Flynn's candor about her own mistakes. My husband and I have discussed much of the book and we are starting to reassess our priorities so that we can take the time with our children that we all need. Although this book is written with a decidedly LDS slant, the principles are applicable for all parents who desire quality family time. Definitely a book I will revisit periodically to keep us more on track with what is truly important. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. DeAnne can really turn a phrase. Her personal stories are wonderful & give a glimpse into her life. DeAnne's words inspired me to be and do better and I found myself reading with a high-lighter in hand. Awesome!!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
