Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
In the typical Dorling Kindersley (DK) style, hundreds of engaging photographs in this book make each recipe come alive with possibilities for kids who want to cook. Although the title is somewhat off-mark (kids in the photos are all preschoolers or kindergarten age, not a toddler in the bunch but maybe that's a British designation for any child who has not lost any teeth yet), the recipes are well-illustrated and follow a pleasant, step-by-step format with pastel numbers. At the beginning of the book is a double page photo spread showing various tools that will be needed in the recipes that follow. Then the reader is treated to recipes for—mini-Caesar salad, lettuce boats filled with chicken-corn salad, easy cheesy bread rolls (from scratch), little pita pizzas, cherry tomato sauce with mascarpone for spaghetti, chicken dippers, chicken satay skewers (you could substitute prawns), salmon fishcakes, corn quesadillas, multicolored meringues, tropical ice pops, mini banana muffins, peanut butter bears, cutout cookies with icing, munchy oat bars, mini lemon cheesecakes, homemade lemonade, fruit skewers, and a fruit dipping palette with four different sauces in a handsome double page spread. Annabel Karmel is a UK cooking star with 15 books, articles in newspapers and magazines, and her own line of foods for kids, and she was honored "with an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2006 in the Queen's Honours List for her outstanding work in the field of child nutrition." Her other cookbooks from DK, Mom and Me Cookbook, Favorite Family Meals, and Lunch Boxes and Snacks are similarly well illustrated. Other than the goofy title, this one would be a welcomeaddition to any school or preschool library that has a big budget for food and cooking (some of these recipes are probably pretty pricey). A Beautiful Book for Blooming Chefs!

Children love to cook so why not give them a sense of purpose and challenge with a cookbook of their own? This is a beautifully pictured book for toddlers and children of elementary school ages who have an interest in not only cooking with parents, but creating their own foods.
My little grandsons in particular love to cook with their parents, and I think this is an excellent book for them. Both are under 5 years of age and have been helping in the kitchen since they were sprouts.

A perfect gift for the child who has a library of different books, as well!
These recipes do need parental over-looking...
