Purpose: The purpose is to provide a current comprehensive reference of cardiovascular medicine. This book is needed due to the rapidly changing dynamic of the field and it meets its objectives as it provides a thorough review of all aspects of cardiovascular medicine.
Audience: The book is written for all those involved in cardiovascular medicine, ranging from students to midlevel providers, physicians-in-training, and practicing physicians.
Features: Covering the entire spectrum of cardiovascular medicine, the book expands on those areas that have seen dramatic changes over the last several years. These include the increasing use of multidetector CT angiography to detect coronary artery disease, the routine use of drug-eluting stents in percutaneous coronary interventions, advances in ablation procedures, and resynchronization therapy for heart failure, among others. It also emphasizes the role of molecular cardiovascular medicine, as this has seen several breakthroughs over the last few years. The book is fully integrated with a DVD, which includes 20 additional chapters to provide a comprehensive resource on other topics, such as congenital heart disease and mechanisms of arrhythmias. Both the book and the DVD provide useful graphics and illustrations.
Assessment: Due to the rapidly changing field of cardiovascular medicine, this book is a needed update. Each chapter is written by recognized authorities in the field. It compares very favorably with other references in the field.
