Overview

This book with CD-ROM is the first in an exciting new series that features real-life case studies with video footage of patients, all of whom have generously provided consent to be involved in this unique learning experience for medical students.

Fifty case studies are presented in this book, which proivdes the presentation, the resolution and the basic science related to each case. The accompanying video sequence allows the reader to see and hear each patient, providing the 'next best thing' to bedside teaching. Through the direct observation of the patient, information is retained more easily than through a traditional textbook format and gives a human interest to the case studies in a way that has never been done before.

For preclinical medical students (USMLE Step 1 and UK undergraduates), the basic science involved in each case will be of importance; while at higher levels, in the clinical years and postgraduate study (MRCP, MRCS, USMLE Steps 2 and 3), the clinical aspects of the cases will be of great value with the basic science used for revision.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"...this book is successful in giving a concise and yet quite comprehensive account of 50 important conditions so that a student could feel confident in their ability to contextualsise a disease's clinical manifestation with its basic science."

MAD Magazine, The Magazine for Medics & Dentists at Barts & the London

"The book presents cases in a lively format with eye-catching images, memorable titles and simple explanations."

2nd Opinion, The Magazine of the Scottish Medical Schools

"Looking at the cases on CD-Rom makes them much more real, with patients describing symptoms of the hospital episode "live". This makes them far more interesting then merely reading about them in a book.

Although the package's strength lies in its video clips, the book remains a fairly good compendium of cases by itself. The cases are interesting, and the video clips are an exciting way of making them even more appealing. Even if the package does not replace a textbook, it makes a very useful companion to one."

Student BMJ

"...This is a brilliant and painless way to learn the basics of common medical cases and works well as an learning aid after reading more substantial texts. I heartily recommend this book."
