Overview

"The Train Ride" is an amazing true tale that starts with the humor, small crimes and hijinks of two college fraternity boys at a Deep South Division II School in the Wiregrass of Southern Alabama. One of them was a scholarship football player and one was a player at life. Boys of the 60s became young men of the 80s sharing times that would bond them forever. What begins as an alcohol-hazed dare turns into a harrowing, but mostly hilarious, rite of passage story that will keep you laughing and may leave you crying by the surprising conclusion. Jim Hall is an expert story teller in the southern traditions of Lewis Grizzard, Mark Twain, and the fictitious Forrest Gump. Jim's gift for mischief, combined with being a natural smart-ass, leads to a page-turning read that you will share with your friends and family.

Meet the Author

Jim Hall was born in Atlanta, Georgia at the generational turn of 1960. He was the middle child of a middle class civil servant, who escaped the hardscrabble hills of western North Carolina only courtesy of the United States Marines. He was raised to fear God, respect his parents, expand his mind, love cars and knock people's heads off on the football fields of West Georgia.
Jim was a starting nose guard on the Troy University NCAA Division II Trojans for his duration there under the legendary coach Charlie Bradshaw. Jim and his bride of 27 years, Becky, have three grown children.

I am stunned. I was asked to pick out a random book to read via my Nook. I saw this book after I read the comments on Amazon.com where this amazing , and I assume first time writer, has received a 4.9 out of 5.0 stars. I searched for other works but found only his blog, titled "flogginyourblog", full of the same hilarious narratives. Where have you been hiding Jim Hall? The world will find you soon. I only hope you have other books written. I have to be as truthful as I can possibly be here: I have never laughed so hard in my life. My spouse kept hearing me laugh out loud so many times she would enter the room to ask what was so funny. I spent the entire night and the next day laughing at the situations these two friends wiggled their way into, mostly by no fault of their own, but also by a lot of fault of their own. I am not from the South but I am enamored by it. This story was so well told, i felt like I was actually there, riding along with Jim and Brian. I cannot give away the ending but I can assure you it will make your heart soar and sink, in equal measures. All friendships should have this type of measure. My rating stands. I have read a few thousand books in my life, but rarely have I read one so fresh, so well told. It is reminiscent of Twain and Hemingway, but add in Lewis Grizzard. I'm not kidding here. It has now been recommended to every book reading friend I have. And many who aren't. A non-reader should take up reading for this fresh tale of long lasting friendship and promises kept. Outstanding.
