Library Journal - Library JournalTraveler Hansen ( Motoring with Mohammed , LJ 2/1/91) here pays tribute to another traveler, the late Hugh Swift. Swift is considered one of the great Himalayan trekkers, having covered an estimated 15,000 miles on foot in the region. Hansen looks at Swift as part of the generation of Americans who came of age during the Sixties, a generation that traveled to Asia and elsewhere to experience other cultures without the preconceived notion that remote and different meant backward. The accompanying breathtaking photographs are from Swift's extensive collection. A sizable portion of the book looks at the state of the Himalayan region today, showing that tourism and foreign aid had a great impact on the people and the landscape. Recommended.-- Lisa J. Cochenet, Rhinelander Dist. Lib., Wis.
