Gr 8 UpThis scholarly study reviews Joan of Arc's life in two chapters, and then devotes the remainder of the book to a description and analysis of her trial. The information is accurate, and there are many black-and-white illustrations. A much-needed glossary and map are not included. The book is serviceable, but its dry, pedestrian text and dull appearance will severely limit its appeal. Polly Brooks's Beyond the Myth (Lippincott, 1990) is still the best biography of Joan for teens. Interesting and well-written, it gives enough material on her trial to make Nardo's book unnecessary.Ann W. Moore, Schenectady County Public Library, NY
