Meet the Author

Debbie Philips is an educator in a school district in South Carolina. She has been in education for 18 years and has certifications in four areas. She and her husband have lived in the Summerville area for almost 30 years. They are privileged to have two children and five grandchildren. Debbie has enjoyed the coastal environments of Georgia and South Carolina since her youth. She is a hiker with an abiding love for the barrier islands, teeming marshes and winding tidal rivers of the southeast.

As a support services teacher, she has exposure to multiple grade level standards. This affords her an understanding of teachers’ need to have access to cross-curricular material that will address academic standards in varied and engaging ways. She hopes to create a series of “tidal river tales” in a coastal setting that serve that purpose.
