Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dianne Ochiltree
The Twiddles hear strange noises downstairs in the middle of the night. They soon discover that their prized music box is missing. But this hippo family also finds several mysterious clues in the mess that the burglar has left behind-and the twins, Timothy and Tabitha, are off on another lighthearted adventure. This early chapter book should give beginning readers plenty of chuckles as they gather clues along with the Twiddle twins, and find out "whodunnit." They will also enjoy Goldsmith's whimsical black-and-white drawings, which are expressive and full of funny detail.
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 2-4--A lively, satisfying whodunit played out in five short chapters. Timothy and Tabitha Twiddle, hippopotamus twins, solve the mystery of who has entered their house, left a mess, and stolen their music box. Clues appear on every page and the black-and-white drawings add humor and additional details. Another funny addition is the reaction of Clarabel the cat to the term "cat burglar," which is repeated a number of times. Goldsmith has included many elements that will lead to discussion in classrooms and in families. He mixes both simple and complex sentences to create a varied text. Beginning readers will find the context clues in the illustrations helpful, while listeners will enjoy the fast pace and chuckle at the pictures.--Mary Ann Bursk, Bucks County Free Library, Levittown, PA
