New Moon features an impressive roster of alt rockers who contributed original songs to the Twilight sequel soundtrack, including Muse, Thom Yorke, Editors, and Death Cab for Cutie. Death Cab's submission, "Meet Me on the Equinox," is the first single released from the album.

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
After Twilight became a world-wide hit, the film series based on Stephenie Meyer's series of vampire romance books got a major upgrade. More time, effort, and money were poured into the second film, New Moon, and nowhere is this clearer than the film's soundtrack. New Moon's music is darker, more sophisticated, and much more indie-friendly than its predecessor's soundtrack, and features more of the artists Meyer credits for inspiring her writing. One is Muse, whose "I Belong to You (New Moon Remix)" is so dramatic that it's easy to hear how the band inspired Meyer's angst-filled love triangle between the clumsy yet somehow irresistible Bella Swan, her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen and her best friend (and werewolf) Jacob Black. Meyer also cites Radiohead as a big influence, and Thom Yorke's previously unreleased "Hearing Damage" is New Moon's main attraction. Drifting in on buzzing synth bass, the song builds to luminous, ghostly heights that make it one of the album's highlights. However, it's not the only one: Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox" is more brooding and rock-tinged than the band's usual approach, but it fits in beautifully with New Moon's sullen mood, while the close harmonies and piano on the Killers' "White Demon Love Song" inject some much-needed drama. Indeed, despite the fact that this soundtrack is more musically satisfying, and certainly more star-studded than the first film's, Twilight felt more like the world Meyer created in her books -- melodramatic, earnest, definitely not reeking of indie rock cool. Even if nothing here nails that vibe the way that Paramore's "Decode" did, Lykke Li's "Possibility" and Anya Marina's "Satellite Heart" still offer winsome indie folk backgrounds for Bella's moping. Despite a few upbeat moments that stick out like a thumb that isn't sore, songs like Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand's "Slow Life," Editors' "No Sound But the Wind," and Bon Iver and St. Vincent's lovely, truly odd "Roslyn" are morose enough for die-hard Twilight fans and stylish enough to please the most discerning music snobs.
Rolling Stone - Rob Sheffield
Where the original Twilight soundtrack went for rock bombast, as in Paramore's hit "Decode," this year's model is hushed and atmospheric. New Moon rounds up a crew of indie-rock heavyweights — Thom Yorke, Death Cab for Cutie, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver — and you can bet your Team Jacob T-shirt they all rise to the occasion.

Didn't like it until the second listen, now I'm lovin' it!!

Understand, the movie is somewhat morose so the music should follow. After the first few listens, I started to really get into it and then wrote down where I thought the most likely place each song would have been placed in the movie. I probably got them all wrong but it made for more interactive listening. I highly recommend looking up Lupe Fiasco, "Solar Midnite" on youtube. He's listed as one of the bonus songs on itunes but it's not on the actual album so you have to buy the album on itunes or go the youtube way. It's a really cool song and I think it would be awesome when Edward is fighting Felix at Volterra.
If anyone has specific ideas as to where each song has been placed in the movie...share please?

    sounds for new moon

    It's emotional, it's loving, it's heart-filled; it's new moon's soundtrack album!

The music for the movie really flows with the story, either watching the movie or reading the book for new moon. From Meet Me On The Equinox to All I Believe In from the album, there's always something good to listen and reminds you where the song was played in the movie.

I can't seem to get sick of listening to it.

I'm a big fan of the Twilight soundtrack and was eager to purchase the New Moon soundtrack while waiting for the movie to come out. I was not disappointed. The songs on here go with the flow of the movie and are not dull or boring. There is a variety on this soundtrack and I'm grateful for it. I would recommend this product to others.

    Overall Good CD

I thought this cd was pretty good. However, without the intensity of the movie scenes the tracks seemed a bit lacking. There are some really good soothing tracks and some that are a bit more upbeat. Overall it is a decent cd.

    New Moon Soundtrack

This cd was interesting to say the least. The first track on the cd was the only one that I was familiar with. The rest of the songs were very weird and I like listening to them sometimes but I don't really enjoy them too much. They are very eclectic.

    New Moon Soundtrack Review

Very mellow, but appropriate for the mood of the movie. Just as good as the first one.

    I really enjoyed it! :)

    New Moon - so disappointing

After hearing "Meet Me On The Equinox" I was SO looking forward to buying this cd and thought it was going to be amazing. I was SO wrong. There are only 2 songs on the whole album that I actually listen to all the time. The other songs are pretty depressing to be honest. I know that the soundtrack matches the movie and it's tone, but honestly the cd was not worth the money I paid for it at all. I still listen to the Twilight soundtrack all the time and am hoping that the soundtrack for Eclipse is more like it than the soundtrack for New Moon.

    Very Disappointing!

As a huge fan of the the "Twilight" series of books,I eagerly awaited for "New Moon",the movie , getting my ticket for the midnight show. I am a huge fan of the first soundtrack. This one , however is not as good as "Twilight". I am disappointed that the same groups were not involved in this cd.The only song I truly like a great deal is "Possibilty" since it deals with Bella's great sense of sadness and loss, which I too am feeling. Here's hoping the next soundtrack is better!

New Moon soundtrack falls short of expectation

I was ecstatic to receive the New Moon Soundtrack due to my excitement about the movie and the great quality of the Twilight soundtrack. However I was severely disappointed with the music chosen for the New Moon Soundtrack. It had no spunk and was totally depressing. Tracks 1 and 2 were good, and gave me great hope for the rest of the CD. However the rest of the CD didn't live up to expectations. Even Muse and OK Go had slow songs on the soundtrack which is sad because they write great danceable songs! I changed the lyrics on track 4 "It's a possibility" to "It's a great possibility... that I'm going to skip this song!" Overall I was disappointed with the songs chosen for the soundtrack and the movie. Try to do better next time guys.

    Great Soundtrack!

I purchased the sound track before seeing New Moon. My daughter and I had fun listening to the cd trying to figure out where the music might go in the movie based only on the book. This sound track is I think even better than the Twilight one. I have both and listen to them often. This is a great mix of sounds. My favorites on the track are Thom York's Hearing Damage, The Killer's A White Demon Love song and Lykke Li Possibility. They are very emotional songs and you can see why they fit into the story of Bella and Edward. I would recomend this to anyone!

Not as good as the soundtrack to Twilight.

I understand that the mood is different in this movie and hence the soundtrack must vary as well. I guess I just expected this soundtrack to be more exciting than it is. I feel like maybe they were trying to stay away from mainstream with it but I liked that about the first one actually. Still a good cd though.
