Meet the Author

Stephenie Meyer is the author of the #1 bestselling Twilight Saga and The Host. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English literature, and she lives with her husband and three young sons in Arizona.

Biography

According to Stephenie Meyer, the idea for her sensational debut novel, Twilight, came to her in a vividly detailed dream in 2003. Over the course of three months, writing at night when her children were in bed, the young Mormon mother of three developed that dream into the spellbinding story of 17-year-old Bella Swan, who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to the tiny town of Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a beautiful, mysterious vampire named Edward Cullen. After feverish writing, painstaking editing, and a brief but frustrating round of queries, submissions, and rejections, Meyer finally connected with an editor at Little, Brown who fell in love with the manuscript and signed her to a three-book deal.

Twilight debuted in October, 2005. An immediate sensation, it appeared on several year-end best books lists and earned its author a rabid cult following among teenage girls. Since then, Meyer has continued Bella and Edward's story in bestselling sequels that have proved equally successful. Young readers cannot get enough of these riveting novels -- a captivating blend of vampires, romance, and suspense -- and parents rest easy knowing the books do not contain the graphic language and sexually provocative material that pervades some YA series.

Whether or not the Twilight Saga proves to have "Harry Potter legs" remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Meyer continues writing. She forayed into adult fiction with 2008's The Host, a chilling science fiction tale about the end of humanity, told from the perspective of an alien invader. And she makes it clear the door is open for further installments in her vampire romance. Clearly, this talented author has many more stories to tell.

Good To Know

Here are some fun facts from Stephenie's "unofficial" biography on her website:
"The unusual spelling of my name was a gift from my father, Stephen ( + ie = me ). Though I have had my name spelled wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it makes it easier to google myself now."

" I met my husband, Pancho (his real name is Christiaan, but no one calls him that—it's not a long story, but it is a stupid one, so I'll skip it), when I was four, but we were never anywhere close to being childhood sweethearts. In fact, though we saw each other at least weekly through church activities, I can't recall a single instance when we so much as greeted each other with a friendly wave, let alone exchanged actual words.

This may have been for the best, because when we did eventually get around to exchanging words, sixteen years after our first meeting, it only took nine months from the first "hello" to the wedding."

" I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that has a huge influence on who I am and my perspective on the world, and therefore what I write (though I have been asked more than once, 'What's a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?')."

"I can't write without music, and my biggest muse is the [British rock] band Muse."

A transcript of the dream that inspired Twilight appears in the book as Chapter 13, "Confessions."

The Twilight Saga "White Collection" Boxed Set

I purchased The Twiligaht Saga "White Collection" as a Christmas gift for my twelve year old Grandaughter. I also purchased the Bella "Bride Doll". My Grandaughter was delighted, she said this was the best gift ever. I would recommend this for any young girl who likes collecting.

I am a very satisfied Grandmother.

I'll admit that it took me YEARS to finish the books, only because when I was twelve I was obsessed with the movies and when I finally finished them at fifteen I thought they were the best books in the world, until recently as a seventeen year old I started reading it again and I'm by far disappointed with the books, Stephanie Meyer spends too much time describing unnecessary details, I probably skimmed through three pages of her describing the setting, that's why the book is soo long! Very little things happen throughout the book it's all just detail to the setting! It's an okay plot now that I think about it, but I won't recommend someone unless they're really into awkward cheesy vampire love story.

Recommended - if you want to have something to show off.

First time reading the Twilight Series, it wasn't too bad. The new design is refreshing, it could be better if the texts on the pages was red. Anyways, I was feel contented with what I got.

It's quite clear that this book is hidden Freudian genius, within the dreams of Stephanie Meyer, a story full to the brim of vampires and wolves transfixed on a woman comparable in beauty only to Betty White. I highly recommend this saga for people who end their sentences with backwards smiley faces, the ungeniunly depressed, and anyone who frankly thought a dream could become a best-seller. In comparison to J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, we find the audicity of Meyer's tendency to make it up as she goes, which turns into a lovely repetitivee novel embraced by people who wear high-socks, tutus, and overalls (simultaneously). For fans of the movies, it isn't recommended. I find people who prefer the movie to the book are often like people who stop their car at a cross street to let you pass, I want them to pass first. Not only should they because they're faster, they're in a car to begin with so by they're default inpatient. In response to "very satisfied grandmother", one green star means poor quality, but I'll assume you actually hate the book but are content with your grand-daughter's happiness. In that case #yolo. What I found somewhat disturbing (and comparable to DragonBallZ), was the interspecial emotional bond. A vampire in love with a caucasian woman sounds like an allegory for masculinist oppression, while Team Jacob tries (in futility) to save her from what she's unsure she wants, because she lacks any facial expressions, whatsoever. My favorite scene was the one in the trailer where he stops a '96 Chevrolet Expo from crushing his romantic interest into a '61 Chevrolet pick-up truck. I like Seattle. #TeamJacob #yolo #swaqq #stagflation #backfat #paulkrugman #bogusbook review

For an avid collector of Twilight memorabilia I would highly recommend adding these to your collection. They are beautiful books. I am just a little peeved that they’ve started offering the ‘White Collection’ in the US. I scoured the internet two years ago and bought mine from the UK…although, on a happier note, my books do have the red pages!
