Overview

The quiet rural town of New Hope, in northern Vermont, possessed everything a growing boy could want. But, Mark was not like other boys. He was deaf. As though nature hadn't dealt Mark a hard enough blow, it also left him with a face scarred from birth. While others considered him suitable for an institution, Mark had a true gift few appreciated.

He loved to roam the forests and fields that bordered the nearby Green Mountains. Then, one day as he was exploring deep into the forest, he was suddenly surprise by a mysterious old recluse. Amazingly, this old man could speak in the same sign language that Mark understood.

Could this mysterious man become a true friend to a young boy people called a freak? Did the strange recurring dreams that haunted Mark have anything to do with this reclusive woodsman? He was about to find out.
