All Music Guide - Alex Henderson
When you think of R&B's great falsettos, Eddie Kendricks is a name that comes up along with Philip Bailey, Curtis Mayfield, Blue Magic's Ted Mills and the Stylistics' Russell Thompkins, Jr. Most of the solo albums that Kendricks recorded for Motown in the '70s are worth owning, but if you're on a tight budget and want to stick to his more essential solo recordings, The Ultimate Collection would be the most logical purchase. Released in 1998, this generous disc contains 16 songs that he recorded after leaving the Temptations. Many of them are essential gems, including "Boogie Down," "Keep On Truckin'," "Get the Cream Off the Top" and "Shoeshine Boy." The late singer ...

The late singer could be quite charismatic, and he brings plenty of charm to the ballad "Skippin' Work Today" and the title song of He's a Friend which finds Kendricks expressing his Christian beliefs without preaching and/or getting in your face. Though not all of the selections are gems some are merely decent, this is by far the best Kendricks collection available on CD.

    Sweet Eddie Kendricks:

The Worlds ONLY Outstanding Falsetto Voice, Ever!!!!!!!! This CD of his is Truly One of His Best Solo CDs and I am so Saddened that He is Still Not Here on Earth with Us, Continuing his Solo Career. I Do Believe that Eddie is still singing with his Angelic Falsetto Voice, Praising and Glorifying GOD, family and friends in 'Heaven' now. I really love the tracks, KEEP ON TRUCKIN and BOOGIE DOWN, and most of the other songs on this CD, only after hearing it twice but my most Favorites are: TELL HER LOVE HAS FOUND THE NEED, which is so Beautifully written yet sung by Eddie. This Song is Surely EDDIE written Especially for Him. The writer and Eddie did an Excellent job with this one, also, GIRL YOU NEED A CHANGE OF MIND and INTIMATE FRIENDS. These Songs WERE written just for Eddie and he sings the HELL Out of these 3. Also much Credit should also be given to the BAND and the BACKGROUND SINGERS, who accompanies this Spectacular CD with Eddie. And Who Said he Would Not Make It. Oh, Yes He Did!!!and Did It 'Exceptionally Well' and even though Eddie is Only here in Spirit with us, I truly hope he reads my remark to Him. I guess GOD is saying, Well I Gave Him to You for 52 years, now I Want Him Home, singing the GLORY!!!!!!!and Who Are We to Question GOD........ Yes, I am another of his many, many, many fans and I wished during his final time here that I could have been at his LIVE Concerts, cheering Him on as the Miraculous, Eddie Kendricks, with that Outstanding Tenor Falsetto Voice. There NEVER EVER will Be another Like Mr. Eddie Kendricks and his beautiful Voice. I wonder if any of his kids was Blessed enough to receive His Gift from GOD. On this coming Sunday, Oct. 5th which is His 16th year in HEAVEN, let us tell Eddie that we will Always Love and Remember Him. An Eddie Kendricks Fan, FOREVER........ Ms. PAB
