From The Secrets of the Illuminati:
The Illuminati ran aground in 1784 when Duke Charles Theodore of Bavaria banned all associations and societies that had been formed without government consent. The Illuminati suffered heavily, with members forced to either recant their membership or lose their jobs. Only Weishaupt and Knigge were able to escape. As members were forced to reveal the Society’s secrets, it was only natural that the public’s fascination with the nature of the society started to mount.
Among the most noted of these revealed secrets, and supposedly the main cause of strengthening the legend of the Illuminati, were the documents seized from member Xaviar Zwack that outlined the Society’s plans for the creation of a similar secret organization for women, defense of suicide and atheism, and the Illuminati claims of having control of life and death of its members. Additionally, these documents also had information on counterfeiting, abortion, poison, and secret ink.

From The JFK Assassination:
As with the assassination of any powerful political figure, JFK’s murder shocked much of the modern world. Kennedy was assassinated at the height of the Cold War which, at the time, led many to believe that the assassination was the first step in a Russian invasion. Once the initial fear and shock wore off, the American public clamored for an explanation. The U.S. government formed the Warren Commission, which was tasked with reviewing all the evidence gathered from the assassination and producing a report that painted a clear picture of JFK’s assassination.
However, even after the report was submitted, many people could not accept that one deranged man could assassinate the most powerful man in the world. Theories regarding the involvement of the U.S.S.R and Cuba circulated among the American populace. Some people believed that the CIA, FBI, or the Secret Service were linked to the assassination plot. In addition, the government fanned the conspiracy fires by keeping important documents hidden from public perusal. Many of these documents were not to be released until 2029. This reticence by the government provided a springboard for many conspiracy theories.
