Overview

It's the biggest collection of flower arranging projects you'll ever find--oversized pages, over 800 photos, and a practical instruction manual to teach you to dress up your home for a special occasion or simply celebrate life on a daily basis, surrounded by flowers. Blossoms from the garden, store-bought stems, dried flowers, even foliage and aromatic herbs--all of nature's bounty comes together here to entice the eye, exhilarate the senses, and lighten the spirit. Stylish design ideas and practical tips cover every aspect of floral design, from selecting flowers according to color, shape, or season, to preparing or preserving them. Once you've mastered the basics, special projects make homemade elegance easy. Evergreens for a New Year's lunch, a romantic centerpiece of deep red roses, ivy and kumquat wreaths, dazzling displays to scent your entranceway with delicate perfumes, even a larkspur topiary will come alive under your hands. Plant directories and more than 800 color photographs take you every step of the way toward bringing the beauty of nature into every room of your home.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Both of these general guides to growing and using flowers and seeds as decoration are beautifully illustrated with outstanding color photography. Alexander deals only with the uses of dried plants, and she has an extensive section devoted to individual plants with requirements for harvesting and drying. Spours emphasizes fresh flowers in rather informal arrangements based on color. Her simple "posies in a vase" are quite lovely, and her instructions for assembling arrangements are easy to follow. Both books reflect modern trends in flower arrangement and would be welcome in public libraries. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
