Overview

"Here’s another cookbook I’m very, very, very, very excited about. Kathy Strahs has tackled the subject of panini in the most delicious way. I couldn’t believe the incredibly delectable panini variations she came up with…and I couldn’t believe how ravenous I was when I finished flipping through the pages.”   -Ree Drummond, award-winning creator of The Pioneer Woman website, and bestselling author of The Pioneer Woman Cooks.   Kathy Strahs's THE ULTIMATE PANINI PRESS COOKBOOK is the first and last word on making the most of a home panini press or counter-top grill. In over 200 recipes and with 100 color photographs, Kathy shows readers how to use this versatile kitchen appliance to make more than just sandwiches and panini (although there is ample recipe inspiration for both), but also dozens of main-course, easy-to-prepare meals that are great for busy home cooks and families.   Kathy includes classics like Croque Monsieur and Reuben panini as well as imaginative creations like a Grilled Asparagus and Prosciutto panini and Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas. There are smaller appetizer panini as well, and a host of breakfast and brunch sandwiches. Beyond the panini, Kathy shows off the creativity of the panini press to make such things as chicken satay, jerk pork tenderloin, and even grilled fish tacos. An inventive chapter on desserts includes an amazing way to make homemade ice-cream cones in a panini machine, along with creative after-dinner options such as Grilled Pears with Honey-Whipped Greek Yogurt and Toasted Almonds.

Home cooks looking to get more from their panini press will find inspiration on every page, and with Kathy's clear recipe instructions, and ample tips and advice included throughout the book, THE ULTIMATE PANINI PRESS COOKBOOK is an essential kitchen companion for making the most of the panini press.

Publishers Weekly

Kathy Strahs left the marketing world in 2008 to pursue cooking, resulting in paninihappy.com, among other endeavors. Here, she offers over 200 panini-related recipes to create the definitive source on the subject. Opening with sage advice on the various types of panini presses and prep recommendations (shredded or hand-sliced cheese will give you the best results), Strahs promptly rolls up her sleeves and fires up her panini press. The recipes are organized by primary ingredient with chapters on poultry, beef and lamb, vegetables and, yes, there's even an entire chapter dedicated to variations of grilled cheese. Strahs does a terrific job of keeping things simple. Rather than overloading the equation with multiple ingredients, she lets the sandwich speak for itself. Readers also learn how to get more mileage out of their panini presses by using them as grills for a spatchcocked game hen, a rib-eye steak, and even DIY ice cream cones. The majority of her recipes are spot-on and fans of grilled sandwiches might have just found their new Bible. (Sept.)
From the Publisher
"Who knew you could do so much with a panini press? Kathy offers page after page of inspired ideas, from pepperoni pizza panini to grilled shrimp tostadas to homemade ice cream cones. Utterly delightful!"

—Elise Bauer, founder and blogger, SimplyRecipes.com

"In The Ultimate Panini Press Cookbook, Kathy Strahs says it all. Nothing is left out, from how to choose a panini press to exactly how to use it to make great panini and other treats. I like Kathy's friendly style and her clear, useful advice."

—Bruce Aidells, author of The Great Meat Cookbook

" You'd be hard pressed (pun intended) to find a panini book as comprehensive and downright fun as Kathy's, let alone one with such spectacular and creative recipes. Look no further: This is unquestionably the last word on panini (and beyond), and it's a great one!"

—Laura Werlin, author of Laura Werlin's Cheese Essentials and Grilled Cheese, Please!

Strahs, who writes the popular blog Panini Happy (paninihappy.com), is on a mission to discover every possible use for the panini press. After explaining how to select, operate, and clean countertop grilling appliances, she shares cooking tips gleaned from years of trial and error (e.g., fresh greens are less likely to wilt in the middle of a sandwich). Like Anthony Tripodi's The Everything Panini Press Cookbook, Strahs's debut includes far more than sandwiches. Her more unusual recipes include homemade ice cream cones, peanut butter sandwich cookies, and mini frittatas ("baked" on the grill in ramekins). VERDICT This comprehensive book rivals some of the best indoor grilling titles. Highly recommended.

"Here’s another cookbook I’m very, very, very, very excited about. Kathy Strahs has tackled the subject of panini in the most delicious way. I had the pleasure of getting an advanced peek at her book, and I absolutely died at every page. "This book gives you idea after idea after idea, combining ingredients in new ways that make a simple pressed sandwich feel extra-special, like combining apple butter and mustard on a ham sandwich or giving a grilled cheese sandwich a Green Goddess spin. But even with the pages filled with recipes and tips, this book doesn't feel overwhelming. It feels like the kind of book you take down when your dinner plans fall though and you want something quick, easy, and delicious for dinner.   What took this book from a nice collection of panini recipes to something that made me want to break out the panini press were the number of recipes that actually aren't panini. I had never thought of using a panini press to, say, grill chicken for a salad or caramelize the outsides of peaches. Brilliant. Even better are the recipes that take these grilled components and puts them inside of actual panini — it's like panini world's version of inception."   -Emma Christiansen, recipe editor for TheKitchn.com
