    Very helpful for parents!

My husband and I just had our first child and autism runs in my family. I wanted to find out more about preventing it and had been finding information that was either strictly for or against vaccinating and all claimed to have scientific research to back their point of view, but I wanted something that would give me both the pros and cons so that I could make an informed decision for myself. This book did a very good job of doing just that.

It gives a comlpete run down of how vaccines work, what each one does, the diseases they are intending to prevent, and the reported side affects of each. It also tells you how to go about handling the legal red tape if you decide not to vaccinate.

I did sometimes find some of the information to be a bit hard to understand, especially the quotes from papers and journals, but I feel the author does a good job of restating everything in a way that is easier to understand.

I would recommend this book for all parents and anyone else due for a booster shot. I know the debate continues to rage on and probably will for some time, but this book has made it easier for me to make my decision and stand by it knowing that I've gotten the facts.

Clear, balanced discussion with factual sources

As opposed to lots of opinions in other books, this book is well written, very complete and involves only common sense, logical discussion Read this along with the books from Miller to get the information you need to make good decisions for your children

Great book but a bit out of date

This book is a great source of information. the author is fairly even-handed of his assessment of the research that is out there. The book is organized well and contains executive summaries and his recommendations. I agree with the other reviewer that the author does not make you feel guilty if you ultimately decide to give vaccines. I liked the approach. The problem, however, is that this book is copyrighted in 1996 and several vaccinations have changed since then. For example, the live polio vaccine is no longer given (at least in my state) and the DTP vaccine is now DTaP. Furthermore, the Hep B vaccine has also been changed to remove the mercury. These points were key in our decision making process.
