Great book that is not just another vampire book, it is so much more! It's got great action, mystery, English thesbians, mobsters, and a whole lot of bad-assery vampire style.

This is one of those series that one sometimes starts from the middle for various reasons. I had read a short story by P. N. Elrod that featured Jack Fleming. I liked the character, so got all the available Vampire File books from my local library. Unfortunately, the first six books were unavailable. Fortunately, they were at the Barnes and Noble internet site (in two volumes), so I was able to order them, and have donated them to the library so others won't have my problem. The first volume answered all my questions about Jack's new un-life, and was very entertaining. Since I already knew about the people in the last several books, it was enlightening to see how Jack met Charles, Bobbi and Shoe. This is a fun read, and a quick one. Ms. Elrod has a nice way of putting other vampire stories on their ear. Jack is a likable fellow and the period of the stories is familiar enough to think that this might be a representation of the times. Pretty entertaining for one so far removed time and distance-wise.

All of these stories are enthralling, unique, and keep me interested. Which is not always easy given how many books in this genre I have read. Elrod is a writer with creativty and innovativeness in her style and approach - true to her characters! Just love Jack Fleming..

A great series that has mobsters, vampires, detectives, and of course dames. A little bit of everything for everyone.

P.N. Elrod writes a very compelling story. I enjoy reading about a vampire that is interested in doing good and is a detective to boot! I hope she keeps writing about Jack Fleming as I want to see what happens next!

PN Elrod takes time getting used to but after you read the first book you cant put it down! She doesnt get the publicity she deserves... She's an in depth writer, and you feel as if you know the characters as you read. PN Elrod gets better and better as she writes, I'm not going to give away the story... so go read it!!!
