Overview

While the collections The Hits 1 and The Hits 2 offer a hearty, 36-song career retrospective for the Artist once again known as Prince, the 17-song The Very Best of Prince gives fans an equally enjoyable hit-and-run overview. Featuring Prince Roger Nelson's greatest Warner Bros. hits from 1978 to 1993, the disc includes No. 1 songs such as the emotionally charged groove of "When Doves Cry," the frenzied, electric-guitar-driven "Let's Go Crazy," and the funk-pop winner "Kiss," as well as his first No. 1 R&B single, 1979's"I Wanna Be Your Lover." The disc also includes Prince classics such as the seductive "Little Red Corvette," the apocalyptic party jam "1999," and the erotic thumper "Get Off." The only weak link is the underwhelming "Thieves in the Temple," taken from the soundtrack to Prince's disastrous film, Graffiti Bridge. That song also appears on The Hits 1 and could have been easily replaced by The Love Symbol Album's naughty "Sexy M.F." or by Parade's deliciously funky "Girls and Boys." Even so, the disc ends on an original note with Diamonds and Pearls's bluesy masterpiece "Money Don't Matter 2 Night." Michael Jackson may have been crowned the King of Pop, but Prince will always be the Royal Badness of rock 'n' soul.

A must have for Prince fans and People just getting to know him. He represents the timeless musicians from a ERA that can never be replaced. The music in this album contains all of Prince's timeless hits. It brings back memories for me when I was a child, listening to his music on the radio. Funnily I never owned any of his albums but when he died I didnt hesistate to get this album. Worth the money & Get This CD while it last cause the quality of music from this CD beats majority of the music coming out today.

The Very Best of Prince brought 17 of his greatest hits album on one CD unlike the Hits/The B-Sides. Prince is the man! I love his music.

I know prince is the king of pop, rock, r&b, soul, I mean allof that. No one can top him, not even Michael Jackson. I love Prince and he believes in real music and doesn't care what other think about him. You keep up the good work & god bless yu

Prince is one of the best of our time but the choices for his greatest hits can't be put in just one disc. This disc is missing ADORE! Arguebly one of the top ten love songs ever! And what about Pop Life and America from the Around The World in A Day album! I can't buy this CD because it will just force me to listen to the individual CD's instead.

in my opinion i think prince is one of the greatest musicians out there. he makes great music & he helps others make great music. i think it's great that someone can go out of the norm and make great #1 hits! and he's been doing it for years and years. i would definately recommend this album to anyone who is looking for great music! :)

This is in no way Prince's greatest hits. Only 3 hits pre-Purple Rain? Dirty Mind and Controversy includes some of his greatest, funkiest work...they are ignored on this compliation. Terrible.

This album was the first I had ever listened to from Prince and since then, I have likely become the biggest teenaged Prince fan since everybody stopped wearing Flock of Seagulls-type haircuts. As many have stated, and as everybody knows, it is impossible to fit every worthy Prince song onto a single Greatest Hits CD. Unfortunately, this compilation of hits consists of only the songs he performed while under contractual slavery by Warner Brothers. Despite a somewhat restricted selection, the songs appearing on the album capture the essence of Prince's musical journey while with Warner Bros., taking listeners from Prince's debut single to his days with The Revolution and leaving off with his darker and sexually charged hits. If a potential listener wants a single greatest hits CD of Prince, I highly recommend this CD or "The Hits". These two albums are a great introduction to the next generation of Prince fans.
