The Very Best of Supertramp

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Originally a European compilation, The Very Best of Supertramp is the closest thing to a definitive overview of the '70s pop-prog group. Certainly, there will be hardcore fans who will notice some favorite album cuts missing -- after all, despite their considerable success on the pop charts, Supertramp was as much an album rock band as ELP or Genesis -- but all the hits are here, from "Bloody Well Right" to "It's Raining Again," as well as a sizable portion of their blockbuster Breakfast in America. That alone will make it worthwhile for all casual fans, but what's really nice about the collection is that it flows very smoothly, even if it isn't in chronological...

There have been other Supertramp compilations, but The Very Best of Supertramp stands head and shoulders above the rest.

    Why a new ''best of''?

Supertramp is or was an incredible band. From their first release ''supertramp'' in 1970 (was never available in the US for some reason!)to ''Famous last word'', the quality of their music was to a lot of people, unmatched. Now, why another ''best of''? This very same album was released in Europe at the end of the 80's. Rick Davis, the pianist/composer/singer seems to have lost his creativity ever since his alter ego Roger Hodson(guitar/electric piano/composer/singer, in clear the ''sound'' of Supertramp) has left the band in 1983. What many fans would like to see is these two reunited, in order to create new material! Sure this compilation is excellent! It has all the hits, and respects the extraordinary musical colors of the band. For new listeners, it is the CD to have!

Very best of? Same as Classics Vol 1

With the exception of ''School'', this is The Classics Vol One. Why release a best of, or in this case, ''Very Best of'', when there is already a disc out with these songs on them? Why not rerelease the classic album with ''One'' new song!! Of course Supertramp is a classic, and a group of musical genuises, that is a given, and the songs are indeed, their best, although, there is room for a classic's volume two. I believe that is what the public really wanted.

    Haven't we met before ?????

This is one amazing CD, but I've seen it before. Checking the release date of 12-11-01 and then pulling the CD out of my collection....I see it was the first CD I ever bought back in 1990. Come on Supertramp, you had me hoping for something newer......what's next, the re-relelease of ''the very best of Supertramp 2'' that was originally released in 1992 ?
