    Best Easter Book!

This is the perfect Easter story book for a child who is reading chapter books or beyond the fairy tale/myths stage of reading. The story is not graphic, but truthful and includes many abstract concepts that preschoolers will not understand. But the child preparing for First Penance or First Communion will find this a wonderful loving story of Christ.

One of the best kids Easter story books I've seen

I read this book to my kids and was very amazed at how much we enjoyed it. I wasn't sure how the author would describe the actual Easter story. It was longer than I expected but the story is so well written, using scripture verses and dialogue within a family to keep the story moving, I didn't mind reading all of it in one sitting. The artwork is beautiful and realistic yet appropriate for children of all ages. It tells the true story of the Crucifixion but is not too graphic for the youngest of listeners. I would think that all children would enjoy it but because of it's length and age of the boy in the story I think 8-12 is the targeted audience.

    A must have....

I was looking for a 'real' Easter book for the kids at Barnes and Noble. Found The Very First Easter by Paul L. Maier. I can't tell you how much my girls LOVE this book. The format is a Mom and Dad telling their son about Easter based on scripture. Both the writing and the illustrations are just excellent!!!

Good explanations of Jesus' death and resurrection

This book clearly explains many aspects of the biblical Easter story that can be hard for modern children to understand -- such as why Jesus as an innocent man was killed as if he were a criminal, and why one set of people were cheering him on on Palm Sunday and yet a few days later others wanted him killed. Another plus to this book are the outstanding illustrations. I highly recommend this book for kids 6 and older.
