**2015 RITA Finalist!**

"With Southern charm and a deeply romantic plot, readers will fall in love with this modern day fairy tale." --RT BOOK REVIEWS

From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery...

In this modern-retelling of "Beauty and the Beast," Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn't been seen since.

After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher's hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy...that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn't felt in years.

Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other's hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they'll have to decide if the love they found in one another's arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

** Contemporary Romance. Due to profanity, realistically depicted scenes of war and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.**

WOW!! I have always been emotionally touch by stories that involve wounded veterans but Katy Regnery has taken it to a whole new level! This book is absolutely fantastic! A wonderfully written story with in-depth characters that is told with such caring and passion, I could not put it down. I laughed and cried as two struggling lonely souls find love only to be torn apart. There is longing, hurt, regret, devastation and anger but there is also a beautiful love story as Savannah and Asher embark on an emotionally packed journey to find acceptance, trust and love. This is one book you do not want to miss out on, you will not be disappointed! Received copy for review.

The Vixen And The Vet by Katy Regnery has to be one of the most beautiful and captivating stories that I have read this year. Asher Lee was the golden boy of Danvers, VA while growing up. He lost his parents when he was young but he worked through the grief and wnt on to college. Then he joined the military because he wanted to give back to his country. He was severly injured by an IED while trying to rescue another soldier. After multiple surgeries he came home to Danvers without his right hand, one ear and severe scarring of his face. Because of his horrific injuries he was not welcomed back by the people of this small town and he became a recluse. He was such a strong character who deeply loved his country and literally gave almost everything. Savannah Carmichael has returned to Danvers in disgrace. She was fired from her reporting job in NYC (her dream job) after writing a story based on inaccurate information from a current boyfriend. She was a strong and independent woman who now felt like a failure. She gets another opportunity to write for a paper doing a human interest piece on a veteran for the 4th of July edition. She picks Asher and that's when their story begins. This story is a very special romantic and emotional love story between two people who have lost their way in the world. It's not all sadness. There are lighter moments as Savannah and Asher begin to know each other. The secondary characters in this story were so important to the storyline. Mrs. Potts, Scarlet, Trent and his brother Lance were so well developed they were integral to the story and Savannah and Asher's growth. I want to thank Katy for her treatment of Asher, which will reflect onto other soldiers who come home disfigured/scarred from serving their country. I also want to thank Katy for donating 50% of the books proceeds through June and July to Operation Mend. This is a really terrific read that will not disappoint any one who enjoys a romance novel with some laughter and a whole lot of emotional growth. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not finished with this one and I am buying everything else this author has written as soon as I finish this review. I was already inclined to rate it highly just because of the proceeds from the book being donated to Operation Mend. What a lovely bonus that Ms. Regnery is a talented storyteller as well as charitable person. I fell in love with Asher, fell in serious sisterhood like with Savannah (although it's a quintessential southern name, to be sure, I went the OTHER southern route and gave both my children Biblical names like Asher's mother did for him). I'm 7th generation military, with all the life lessons in duty and honor and loyalty that should imply ingrained in me. If Ms. Regnery continues to write, she will always be able to claim that her books have sold, because I will buy every single one of them.

5 Stars for The Vixen & the Vet, but this really deserves 6++ Stars! The Vixen & the Vet was perfect from page one! From the beginning this story drew me in and I hated to put it down. The Vixen & the Vet is the story about Asher Lee and Savannah Carmichael who are both struggling with heartache. Asher is soldier that was injured in Afghanistan. Savannah Carmichael is a reporter that lost her job and credibility. Both return home to hide from the world but instead find each other. Asher is suffering from physical pain but that is not the focus of this story. His injuries are extensive but it’s his loneliness that really moved me. Asher has only Miss Pots, his appointed guardian from when his parents were killed. Instead of the town supporting and honoring a veteran, they cringe at the sight of him and call him names. This was so upsetting. So for me The Vixen & the Vet isn’t just a love story. It’s opened my eyes and increased my respect for all the men and women of our military.  The Vixen & the Vet was so well written, the story flowed smoothly and at a great pace that kept me intrigued. The romance scenes were steamy and sexy. The interactions with the characters were funny and heartwarming. And I loved the supporting characters, Miss Pots and Judy Carmichael (Savannah’s mother). Both women are loving and gave sound advice to Asher and Savannah. There is a scene with Judy and her blue ribbons that brought me to tears. With each new book from Katy Regnery I get more impressed with her writing. She surprises me with how creative she is. First it was the text messages in Midsummer Sweetheart (Heart of Montana #2) and now with The Vixen & the Vet it is the references to Beauty and the Beast and the use of the “most important milestones” headings that tied the entire story. These little touches add uniqueness to her stories which keep coming back to her for more. The Vixen & the Vet is a great story and my new favorite from Katy Regnery. This is a book I would read over and over again! I recommend this to everyone!

I've never been disappointed with Regenry's work, and this one just really hit the spot. It's sweet, moves forward, and has enough quirks that it stands apart from the typical rewrites of fairytales. There's a definite beauty and the beast feel to it, but it in no way 'predicts' or inhibits the storyline.  As a milspouse myself, I can say that I approve of the veteran aspect, and also say that this is the best pick-up-and-feel-good kind of romance I've seen in awhile. Only if you like lots and lots of steam, of course. LOTS OF STEAM.

Two Wounded Souls Finding Love and Acceptance First off, for the months of June and July 50% of the profits from the sale of this book will be donated to Operation Mend, which is used to help wounded veterans. This is absolutely a beautifully told story of a wounded veteran, Asher Lee, who came home from Afghanistan after being severely injured by an IED, losing his right hand, injuring his right leg and disfiguring the right side of his face. After a year in the hospital in Texas, he comes back home to Danvers, VA to the family estate. Asher is alive, but by no means is he living. He is an empty shell of a man who has been physically and mentally devastated by his loss and disfigurement. Savannah Carmichael, was a young journalist who had left Danvers, VA for NYC and after college worked for the Sentinel newspaper, her dream. But she accepting information from her boyfriend and called it reliable source, that was anything but. Patrick had used her and she was expendable to save his family. She has come home to lick her wounds. A journalist friend puts her in touch with the Editor for a Phoenix newspaper and she accepts an assignment with possible employment. I am not going to tell the story, instead I am going to say that this is such a beautiful and moving story, one that is full of love, laughter and heartache. It is a story you need to read, it is Asher and Savannah's story.

An awesome story of two people struggling through hard times finding love and purpose in each other. This is a very intricate story and shows us how important it is to look past the surface and really get to know the person. Recommended read.

As a teenager in the 1960s I saw a lot of Vietnam vets returning with horrific injuries. They were not welcomed home either, just like Asher. This book reminds us to look beyond the physical. A wonderful love story.

I loved this sweet story but feel it was cheapened by excessive overly-descriptive sex. Otherwise I would've rated it 5 stars. The romance and inference of sex is so much classier than all the in-depth description. Still a very good book with a nice ending.

I think the author should rename the title of the book. The title of the book is really lame for such a good story.

The Vixen and the Vet by Katy Regnery is absolutely fantastic. Ms Regnery has given readers a well-written book. Savannah and Asher's story is full of amazing character, drama, humor and sizzle. This is a fantastic wounded warrior story that will pull at your heartstrings. I enjoyed The Vixen and the Vet and look forward to reading more from Katy Regnery in the future. The Vixen and the Vet is book 1 in A Modern Fairytale Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

A hero who reads books including romance? Sold! * ‘Books were his refuge, his only real pleasure.’ Minor spoilers alert!!! This was a truly a sweet story. I absolutely loved that Asher was an avid reader and book collector! It's been ages since I've seen the Disney animated film, The Beauty & The Beast, so I was also glad to be buddy reading it with Eunice who pointed out similarities that went over my head. We analyzed and gushed and generally felt a huge tug on our heart strings. *Random book stats* Writing Style: 3rd person POV Original fairy tale inspiration: Beauty and the Beast Cover: I like the decision to put a cover model in black and white and in profile. It leaves the physical disfigurement up to the reader’s imagination based on the author’s description. And the dog tag is a very nice detailed touch. Chapter headings: There are some cool chapter titles that match the article Savannah’s young sister Scarlet read to her in chapter 1 – i.e. Ch. 3 ‘The first time you sit in comfortable silence.’ A few favorite quotes: ‘There was only so much romance he could read before his heart bled from living vicariously, knowing that life loomed long and his own chances at happily-ever-after were nonexistent. Sometimes he argued with himself–why torture yourself reading about what you can’t ever, ever have?–but a few weeks would go by, and after the thrill of mysteries, the voyeurism of biographies, and the swashbuckling satisfaction of adventure, he’d find himself gravitating toward romance. Again.’ * “I’m sick of living alone. I’m sick of hiding. I want to go to restaurants. I want to go to the library. I don’t want people staring at me. I think…I mean, I thought I was done with the world, but I’m not. And I didn’t know that until I met you. I want to live in the world again because of you.” ** He remembered the words he’d said to Miss Potts the first day Savannah came to call. I’m not fit to rejoin the human race. But now he was. And Savannah had made him want a second change at living.’ ~ I'll definitely be reading Never Let You Go, the next fairy tale inspired novel in this standalone series.

I read this as part of the Hometown Heroes bundle, which had many great stories benefiting pets for vets. However, I was so gripped by this particular story, I felt compelled to leave a separate review. This story really gets to you. I fell in love with the character of Asher Lee (a wounded war hero) along with his love interest, Savannah (a reporter with a wounded heart). Their story made me cry buckets. The highs & lows of their relationship will capture your soul. I highly recommend you read Asher & Savannah's journey. You'll not regret it.

A tale as old as time.....
Yes it is, and Katy Regnery retold it in this modern version with beauty and grace. I was captivated with Asher Lee from his first moment on the page. His southern charm and "Unpolished" ways stole my heart. Savannah and Asher are strong, warm, and utterly perfect together. The evolution from new friends to lovers is smooth and natural feeling from the first interaction. I laughed out loud and cried awful sobs while falling completely in love this this Beauty and Her Beast.
